transmission won't shift - is making me mad......

I just finished swapping in a rebuilt b18a engine in my car.
At the same time I did an auto to manual transmission swap. The problem I’m having right now is that I can’t get the transmission to go into gear with the engine running. It shifts fine with the engine off. I’ve adjusted the clutch cable adjuster nut as far as the threads would let it go and still nothing. The clutch and flywheel are brand new. I’m racking my brain right now trying to figure out what the problem could be. I rebuilt the transmission myself (new syncros and bearings). Would there have been any way to have checked it before putting it all back together? What else could it be? I searched but nothing really clear came up. I’m so tired and dejected right now, sorry for the long sob story.

^bump. Nobody knows?

Clutch cable too stretched or wrong one or adjust the thumb nut till you have a quarter inch slop out the bottom of the lever. Go from there.

It is very possible the cable is your problem, but it could also be something like a bad pressure plate, release fork broken or improperly installed, etc… With regards to the cable, routing is very important since it won’t have the proper tension on it if it isn’t routed in the correct place. You will probably need a helper to work the pedals, but make sure there is nothing binding and the cable is moving the fork arm it’s full range of motion. It should also feel fairly easy to push the pedal in. In other words, it shouldn’t fell like you are lifting weights on a leg press.

Also, did you use any of the DIY threads on here for the conversion? There have been several good threads with lots of detail on converting from auto to manual.

Thanks guys. Wraith I did read up on the auto to 5 speed threads. I got almost all the wiring done up with help from those threads. Good information there. I actually went and got a brand new clutch cable from the dealer last week and installed it last night. I ran out of time though to see if it worked so I’ll try tonight. I’m leaning towards incorrect installation of something as I’ve never touched a clutch assembly before. The flywheel and clutch kit are all brand new as well as the release/throwout bearing. I should have paid closer attention to how everything came out before installing all the new components.

I got the new cable in and did some minor adjustments to and and it works fine now. Now I just got to figure out the high idle and CEL. Thanks for the help guys.
