Trouble getting rear caliper back on

Hi I’ve searched the forum a bit hoping to find someone else who may have had this same issue, but to no avail yet. I have a 1990 DA and I’m replacing the pads in the rear. I managed to get the caliper off and screwed back in the piston, but now that I put the new pads on i can’t get the caliper to fit back onto the rotor so I can reinstall it. It looks like where the caliper bolts on there is a spring of some sort to keep pressure on the outer piston, but I can’t seem to compress either of those.
Does anyone have a pro tip on re-installing the calipers?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Are you talking about the rubber boots? Those are dust boots to keep dust and dirt out of the slider pins. I would remove the slider pin and boot and clean them and regrease the slider pin everytime you change your pads. It’s simple and quick. If the slider pin seizes it will cause premature wear and you won’t get your full braking potential. I hope this helps. It could be something else but caliper bolts to the slider pins so that’s what I would think it is.

Got it. Thanks a bunch! The slider had totally frozen in. So I pried it off and regreased it, and then installed it. It’s nice to be able to stop my car again

No prob. Glad I could help. It is pretty nice to stop:)
