trying to wire up my 2nd fan to my Cruise Control switch

i have two 12" fans.

one is operated by the Fan switch & Ecu

the other one is for AC…but since i don’t have ac. i would like to wire it to a switch. Not just any switch but a switch that already exist on my dash panel.

I would like to have this Cruise control switch as the switch that activate the other fan.
mostly when i push the engine hard, in traffic or just to cool down

2 Wires from the Fan
5 Wires from the switch.

Black (im assuming ground)
Red (constant power?)
Red/black (signal?)
and the other 2 wires…White & Blk/Yel are the ones that “link” or “close the circuit” when the switch is switched closed

i know if i have the wires on the fan backwards… it’s just gonna blow the other direction, but ill switch them when they work on command.
and one of those red wires go to fuse box for power

Electrical is not my thing…any help would be awesome!

I will get back to you later with a how-to, should be pretty easy. 94

please do! much appreciated.

Will be home at 4:30, in about 1hr, I have all my wiring diagrams there. 94

It’s easy enough with a continuity meter… you can find which pins are closed/open when the button is pressed.

Should be Ground and one of the others.

OK, if you want illumination the red/black is illumination power, the red is illumination ground, it can be grounded to chassis or connected to the red lead at the Dash Light Brightness Controller, so you can dim it along with the rest of the dash lights.

Connect the black/yellow to the 2nd ign. free pin on the under dash fuse box, [hot when ign. switch is on].

The black lead goes to ground, [for on indicator lamp] the light green is your switch output, [12V+] run it to #85 of a SPDT or SPST relay, ground #86 of the relay, run a fused lead from batt. to #30 of the relay, connect #87 of the relay to the fans pos.(+) lead and ground the fan to cars chassis.

If your car already has the CC harness plug just cut the light green lead and run it to your relay.

If your car had A/C, [condensor fan relay still there] a little different wiring can be done to utilize it, let me know.94

fcm, you have an email bud.

Thanks for getting back to me FCM! i have a few questions…

FCM: “OK, if you want illumination the red/black is illumination power, the red is illumination ground, it can be grounded to chassis or connected to the red lead at the Dash Light Brightness Controller, so you can dim it along with the rest of the dash lights.”

Me, Question 1.
red/blk - run this wire straight to the battery or fuse box to get constant 12v??
red - ground, or the the "brightness controller.

FCM: “Connect the black/yellow to the 2nd ign. free pin on the under dash fuse box, [hot when ign. switch is on].”

Me:
Blk/yel - fues box [hot when ign. switch is on]

FCM: “The black lead goes to ground, [for on indicator lamp] the light green is your switch output, [12V+] run it to #85 of a SPDT or SPST relay, ground #86 of the relay, run a fused lead from batt. to #30 of the relay, connect #87 of the relay to the fans pos.(+) lead and ground the fan to cars chassis.”

Me: Question 2?
Blk - “ground”.
'Light Green" to Relay #85. (What light green??) (do you mean the “White” wire? to pin #85?)
#86 - “ground”.
#87 - (+) of fan
#30 fused wire link to + side of Batt.

Fcm:
“If your car already has the CC harness plug just cut the light green lead and run it to your relay.”

Me:
The car is an 1990 RS model, never had Cruise Control, i got the pig tails and switch from a salvage yard.

Fcm:
If your car had A/C, [condensor fan relay still there] a little different wiring can be done to utilize it, let me know.94
Me:
No AC either.

I appreciate your time Fcm! get back to me when you can…

The red/black illumination lead should be connected, [parallel] to another red/black or to the park light free pin on the under dash fuse box, if you connect it to the batt. the illumination light will be on all the time/

The red lead should be connected to the red at the Dash Lights Brightness Controller switch, [you can connect the red/black to the red/black at the DLBC switch also] that way the illumination light will dim with the rest of the dash lights.

Black/yellow is “true” ign., [hot in run and start] for the fan you can use 2nd ign., [hot in run only], just like the park light free pin there is also a 2nd ign. free pin at the under dash fuse box, in fact there is also a 20A 12V constant, [hot at all times] free pin that you can use for #30 of the relay.

The black lead in your switch needs to be grounded so when you turn on the switch the on indicator light will work
The light green lead in your switch, [wrapped with the black/yellow] if it looks white it is faded, it is the output of the switch it goes to #85 of the relay and you ground #86 of the relay, [or the other way around it makes no diff. light green to #86 and ground #85.

If the car did not come with AC there will be no AC relay but I am not sure if the CC switch plug will be in the dash harness or not, if it is it makes it pretty much plug and play, although you will have to cut the light green and run it to the fan relay. 94

Thanks for getting back to me FCM. i really appreciate the help & for what you do to help the g2ic community.

This is what i got. drew out a map, sorry for the bad hand writing but this is what i see

*A provides a constant 12v
*B provides 12v with parking/indicator lights
*C provides a constant 12v, has its own circuit and uses fuse 13
*D provides 12v when switch is on “accessory” and on
*E provides 12v when ignition is “on”

DLBC = dimmer light, brightness control
CC = Cruise Control
FB = Under-dash Fuse Box
Blk wire with the “rings” = Ground.
Pins: A, D, B
A provides a constant 12v
D provides 12v when switch is on “accessory” and on
B provides 12v with parking/indicator lights

im sure i have it right, but would love it if you can double check. Please & Thank you!

That will work, but if the C free pin is on it’s own circuit using fuse 13, use it to go to #30 of the relay and install proper size fuse for the fan in fuse 13 location, that way the fan is properly fused by itself. 94

Thanks Fcm. i really appreciate it. ill keep you posted on how it goes, thanks again!
