Alright so as simple as this sounds some people may not know how to do it, or may need some pointers. This also improves the look of your car. As much as I thought wasting my time doing this was going to be lame, it actually gave the car a noticibly nicer look. (Remeber subtle things can also change the look of the car.) I only did this to the two metal moldings on the upper corners of the windsheild, I am not sure how this would work on any of the other molding.
Items Needed:
- 1/8" Painters Tape
- 1" Painters Tape
- Unwanted News Paper (any newspaper with Barry Bonds on the front page will do.)
- 1500 grit sand paper
- Krylon flat black spray paint
-
Start masking unwanted painted areas with your 1/8" PT. As you can see, I have used 1/8" painters tape to start masking off parts I do NOT want to be painted in this process. If you don’t want to buy a roll of 1/8" painters tape specifically for this project I would understand, just remember that 1/8" gives you more precise taping, and makes the job a whole lot easier
-
Now take your 1" or thicker painters tape and tape out about 6" around the molding (to help insure the paint does not run onto unwanted areas.
-
Now get your favorite unwanted newpaper and start covering up atleast 1/4 -1/2 of your car (as shown)
-
Take your 1500 grit sand paper, get a bowl of water with a little soap, and give your molding a quick sand to get any loose paint off the molding and to ensure adhesion. Let the water dry.
-
Wipe off any debris that might be on the molding.
-
Get your spray paint and spray your molding as the can says. (Mine was 3-4 light coats with a 12" spraying distance.)
-
Let the paint dry.
-
Add any needed applications
-
Remove newspaper
-
ENJOY!
