Turning up the heat.

Ok, I bought my 1990 integra about 4 months ago and I was informed that the heat for the cabin of the car was turned off. The car has never been winter driven and I dont plan on being the first, but its fall now and I’m still gonna need it for awhile til the snow comes. He (previous owner) told me that the valve to turn it back on was under the dash. Ive been looking around and I cant find it. I’m still trying to contact him and I’d rather not go to a mechanic just yet.

I was just wondering if anyone can help me on the where abouts of said valve?

Thanks.

i am assuming you’ve already tried turning the temp. knob to hot?

not really understanding what your saying but heres what i got. there are 2 cables that run from the temp dial through the firewall right below the fuel filter, there is a hoes there that runs from the block to the heater inside the car. when you turn the dial in the car to heat it opens the valve on that hose. i know last year my heater didnt work and it turns out the dial is like a big screw in the dash that pulls or pushes that cable to open the valve. if you turned the dial to far or some how stripped the big screw (what happened in my case) you will need to remove the center piece in the dash and realign the cable and screw. its hard to put into words so if you want i can take a pic of my helms manual for you.

Sorry, i forgot to mention that the dial is broken. Guess ill take another look under the dash before i go abouts taking anything apart.

Is that part of the dash hard to take off?

its not so much as hard as its fragile with the vents and thin plastic parts. you have to take the cover off for the screw in the very bottom right corner and get to the screws under the dails. get a very tiny flathead to ge in there. thats all i remember from it right now, its to early. i’ll pull up the helms page for you when i get home.

Good news i got it working. It was the vavle under the passenger dash that i was oringinally tinkering with. Turns out the arm for it was broken so i just jammed it over. I got plenty now.

Thanks everyone.

gald we could help.
