ok heres the problem i cant turn right, if i try to turn right the steering wheel turns and makes a popping sound and doesnt turn, it turns left normally, i do not have power steering, i have never heard of this problem before i have no idea wat this is, i did a quick search and will countinue searching any help would be apprecaited. i dont even know how i was able to make it home tonight
This sounds like a snapped tie rod.
if it were a snapped tie-rod, one wheel would be all over the place and the other would still be able to turn right or left. don’t think that’s what’s going on here.
why don’t you have power steering?
just put it on the hoist, unlock the steering, and try and turn the wheels by hand. look for any visual binding. also, check the column as well.
it’s probably the gear in the rack. maybe damaged. but have a look first
i dont have power steering cuz the last owner removed it, idk why, i will have to wait to get it on hoist probly have to take it in to a shop cuz i do not currently have a garage and its getting ready to start snowing. i have recently had problems with the steering when i turn right it would make a poping noise but tonight was the first time it wouldnt turn i almost hit an suv that was going pretty quick
Check your tie rods! My ex girlfreind had that same problem and the steering wheel would get loose when turning then pop as your turning fully. Changed the tie rods and got a alignment problem fixed. If its noth that then look into your steering rack as in there is not too much when it comes to steering. Start from tie rod then work your way up! Good luck!
ye, maybe just jack the front end up and have look see. don’t necessarily need a hoist. if it’s not in the rack, it’ll be something you can see pretty clearly
it’s almost like zoolander lol
update i got under the car yesterday it is not a tie rod so im having it towed to a mechanic today hopefully they can fix it i will update so people do know wat it was for future refrence
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the title
“Derrick that was unbelievable”
“I know! I turned left!”
“Yeah that, but Derrick you saved the Malyasian Prime Minister!”
“Oh right cool.”
i had the exact same issue but was always able to turn. i lifted the car and had the wife turn the wheel as i tracked the sound. i noticed the noise was coming from the left front lower control arm ball joint. the ball it self was smashed all the way into the knuckle and the rubber bushing was missing. so i pulled the hub assy and switched it with a spare and the problem was solved.
update; went to the shop told em wat happend they said its the axle shaft i thank god there they were able to squeeze me in on such short notice it will be fixed on monday. i say thank god cuz i live in iowa and theres usually snow on the ground already and at the first site of snow i dont drive the teg, back to my beat up subaru yay… not
