I have a 91’ GS with ABS and like the title says I had some uneven wear on my front brakes, to be specific the passenger side wore twice as fast as the driver. Like anyone else would assume there has to be a sketchy caliper so I changed my pads, rotors, and both calipers. Let me go ahead and state that there is no ABS light and it is functional cause I can get it to illuminate. I feel as though the passenger side is still giving me issues cause I’m getting a slit vibration and pull on the interstate. I understand its possibly an axle and I’m just over reacting but I wanna be positive that the brakes are not gonna self distruct again. Is there any problems with this old ABS system that would cause this to happen? Would a faulty wheel bearing or hub have this effect? Idk just throw me some ideas or diagnosis.
Did you check the slider pins when you changed the pads and calipers? You should clean them and grease them up when you change your pads or calipers. If they seize up it can cause uneven pad wear.
Time to delete the ABS. Go to a pull-a-part, find a non ABS car and start pulling lines off! Don’t forget the Proportioning Valve too. I made new steel hard lines, but I cut the fittings off a junkyard car when I got the valve. I sugest doing it this way if you have the tools and know how to use them.
P.S. the line fittings from an ABS car fit an ITR master cylinder. This is what I used on my DA.
^True!^
Make sure to really lube the slider pins and get new slider pins and probably get new re-manufactured calipers. Bleed the calipers really well and you shouldn’t have any problems, brake wise.
Yeah I checked all slide pins and relubed them, got reman calipers and bleed the system well when I replaced the brakes.
I do wanna delete the abs I have all the lines and proportioning valve. If I go with the ITR master cylinder do I have to replace the the booster? I’ve heard of ppl using the abs booster with a none abs cylinder and having problems with the brakes locking up. As far as the old wiring for the abs do you just tuck it away or can it be removed as well?
I deleted the booster on mine, but you shouldn’t have too. Bolt holes look like they line up!
