i am thinking of getting a catback mad at a muffler shop and i am unsure of wat muffler to get and resinator and wat a nice deep sound any suggestions let me know thanks
I have a 12 inch flowmaster resonator with a standard turbo style muffler and it sounds nice and deep, especially WOT, none of that leafblower sound, and it gets quiet when you back off the throttle. I’ve gotten numerous compliments from other drivers who are not into japanese metal like I am.
wats a turbo muffler is it a specific brand
no, a turbo muffler is a generic term for a performance muffler that is in a standard housing, it looks stock. Just get a good brand with decent internals, good welds, etc so it doesn’t fall apart. Dynomax makes them, I’m not sure who else, just go to the shop and they’ll know what you’re talking about, most have them in stock. Remember that bigger equals quieter, so pick a size according to what volume you want, I went with a size close to stock and its quiet on the freeway, but you always know it’s there.
i have a muffler from vibrant performance as well as 18" resonator… Will be installed soon, will let you know how it goes, possibly get a sound clip aswell
I’ve said it before (so has everyone else) & I’ll say it again: “Get a Greddy SP2 or an RSR ExMag or nothing.” They are a pricey @ $400+; but well worth every penny. You can’t go wrong with quality like these two offer.
RSR: Sleathy, low grumble with a mean wide open throttle.
Greddy: Medium grumble with a ferocious wide open throttle. (I have this one)
You’ll probably end up spending around the same price making it (parts & labor) as you would buying a good setup. Even if you save $50 or $100 bucks on the DIY; I’d be better spent on the quality catback than anything else. Besides, it only takes an hour or less to bolt on the system yourself, by yourself.
Don’t go cheap on real performance parts. The exhaust is on of the most important bolt ons; right alongside the header & intake.

i’ll co-sign on that one
SP2 sounds mean as hell at WOT, all the while STILL being relatively quiet compared to other aftermarket cat-backs (skunk2, thermal r&d, tsudocrap, buddy clubREALLY LOUD etc.)

why would you want to get a catback mad at a muffler shop for? What did the muffler shop ever do to the catback?
sorry made
i had a whole 2.5" catback made for me cuz my friend is neibors with a muffler shop owner, he’s made a shit load of custom exhausts before so i told him to do what he thinks would work for style and performance, he put a 12" resonator on with a flowmaster 30 series muffler and it has a VERY distinct tone, its hard to describe but it’s semi-quiet when your just cruzing but at WOT it has a loud, mean note to it, it like it but i have a shot motor so at around 3000RPM’s it pings

What do you mean by “tsudocrap”?
I’m considering buying a tsudo and ive heard it sounds pretty decent and theyre considerably lower in price range than greddy.
tsudo is crap, in my opinion, because it has terrible fitment issues (from what i’ve read AND SEEN IN PERSON) and without the silencer in it, can be quite loud. its also just a poorly designed piece. think SSautochrome, but exhaust systems. its inexpensive for a reason.
That’s why Pacesetter sucks too. Unfortunetly. you can’t really get a cheap, yet high quailty exhaust. Can’t have your cake & eat it too.
Now when we’re talking headers, then we get a much appreciated Mulligan with the Megan header. $150shipped & the same specs as a DC Sports-with 1 notable distinction- bigger primaries. (more low end torque)
I rock both the Greddy SP2 & the Megan; & I have no complaints whatsoever. Do it right the first time or do twice, your call.

yeah, the Megan header is actually a decent product, from what i’ve seen.
they look and sound good, and are (so far) lasting pieces. my friend has a megan header on his ls swap civic and he’s had that header for the better part of 3 years. welds are still in great shape, header looks good. only minor cosmetic damage (lowered car, so its gonna get some scrapes from time to time)
One of my friends (a member on here) has the Tanabe Hyper Medallion…in the same price range as the Greddy but it sounds very nice, almost stock until you get on it.
yeah, the tanabe is an amazing exhaust. i almost ordered that one, but i was sold on the greddy when i saw a good vid of it on a DA on youtube. if i build another DA in the future, i’ll give the Tanabe a shot. i know i won’t be disappointed
So in my best interest, because i dont want a car that sounds like a weedeater, i should just save up the extra cash and go with something higher quality?
A buddy of mine has a tsudo on his civic but I never heard anything about any fitment problems, but I’ll look into it.
Thanks for the advice
I suggest this muffler:
ES Tuning. This muffler is high quality, looks “stock-ish,” only costs about $100, and sounds great. You have the option of 2.25" or 2.25" and polished or black finish.
Pair this muffler with a resonator from Magnaflow and you have yourself a nice sounding exhaust.
