Update

I’ve been to 2 events so far (dead last on the first event…note to self…do the slalom on the correct side, that cost me 4 gates and 40 seconds :p) and I went to a novice training day. holy crap, that novice day helped. I don’t know if anyone (maybe Roldan) knows Bob, Karl, Val, or Brent but they were some of the instructors there. I felt a little queezy after I rode in Karl’s MR2, and the same thing happened in Bob’s Z06 Vette… is all I have to say about that freakin Vette…:uhoh: :vomit: But yeah, I got a few new parts to add to the list…

Novice class :stuck_out_tongue:
-Injen CAI, DC header, Greddy MX
-HR Sport Springs
-Tokico Illuminas (1F, 5R)
-16" Paradas for the time being
-Bomz FUSB
-Oglesport C-Pillar
-Oglesport RLTB

Hopefully before the 2nd SCCA event on the 28th, I’ll have…
-195/60/14 Falken Azenis on my ‘custom’ painted gunmetal stock alloys
-a more agressive alignment (its at 0 all around). I’m thinking just -1 degrees at all 4 corners, 0 toe, and a degree or two of positve caster.

Then sometime in April/May…
Oglesport RUSB
Suspension Techniques rear sway bar
Corbeau A4 seats, and Sparco Harnesses

im back from my first autox today. it was the funnest thing ive ever done. there were some fast cars too. i did alright, ran a 60, 54,52, in my three runs. tein ss and falkens. i did beat the riced out celica tho. im happy and cant wait till the next one. im hooked.

:shakes his fist: i wanna go for my first run so bad. any tips?

make sure your tires are in good shape. i saw lots of kids spin. then i talked to them and they had mega camber wear in the rear.

dont try to go too fast. my first run was a 60. cautious, then i figured i could go a lot faster. staying on course is more important than going an extra mph or two and then hitting cones and spinning out. you should also find someone w/ similar car who is more experienced than you.

driving experience what will make your car the fastest. it is sooooo fun.

What is the current setup in your car? Yeah, your first run go at about 60%. I’d say 100% would be madman, and 30-60% would be spirited street driving. Go on the course-walk with someone who knows FWD. Basically the #1 thing you can do is look ahead. Don’t take each cone as ‘how fast can i take this corner’ but take a section of the course at a time like ‘how can i set myself up to go really fast coming out of this section’. Always look a few cones/gates ahead of you. Also, don’t worry about hitting cones or missing gates. My first time auto-xing i got last place (yes, out of everyone, i lost to a honda insight and a toyota prius) my second time i got 2nd to last. Then i went to a Novice school and the event after that i got 6th place. yesterday i got 4th, i barely lost 3rd place, sometihng like .1 seconds. But yeah, dont be afraid to go slow. oh yeah, get some dedicated track tires (doesnt matter what kind they are Azenis, Victoracers…Toyos) you’ll save yourself money in the long run.

Go to www.solo2.com and see when the next event is(there’s one this weekend) and get out there.

cool.

14" azenis/hx
agx F/koni yellow R
450F/550R, eyeballed height at 1.7"
f/r strut bar, lower rear tie
rear s/t sway
camber -1.6F/1.1R, toe 0, caster 0.9L/1.1R

if im last and lose to a stock fwd ill quit!

dude 45bucks wtf? i thot it was 25. for that much ill wait to change my crossmember and get some fresh azenis first =/

You’ll most likely have a slower time than a bunch of stock FWD cars. Don’t let it shock you.

Practices typically cost more than races, but you usually get more runs in. Cal Club(your region) has discounts for SCCA members($10 off) as well as an additional $10 off if you’re a student or First Gear SCCA member(under 21). If you are planning on going to several events, you might want to look into getting an SCCA membership. You can print out an application from their website: www.scca.org
Also, I’m pretty sure that swapping out your xmember will kick you out of STS and into a prepared or mod class.

okay so don’t even waste your time  trust me man you’re gonna get your ass handed to you by some pretty pathetic cars. I lost to a Honda Insight and it was bone-stock

oh no my crossmember is just bent. i dont think i could ever afford an aftermarket one.

i dunno man. with these prices and scca membership, i think i’d rather use the money towards track days at willowsprings/buttonwillow…

oh i dont know about the xmember or anything. i was just saying that if its your first event, dont be discouraged when you get a slow time.

I think he was responding to my comment about the crossmember…
Sorry, I was just assuming that you meant an aftermarket one since there’s been so much talk about them recently. Anyway, it’s up to you about what you want to do. Track days are more fun than autoxes IMO, but there’s nothing cheap about them.

ya and with the 3hr drive and endurance driving i definitely want to go with a group in case she fails…

:werd: That’s a good idea. My first time at Willow Springs, my alternator bolt fell out which caused all of my accessory belts to come off. Luckily I was there with some friends and they were able to pick up some parts for me(Thanks Johnny and Jon  ). Also, Luis ended up having to tow his car home because it was overheating and Nick blew out one of his shocks. :frowning:

jeesh. i have a complete motor and almost every nut and bolt from a parts car i can bring. even axles heh. but who will be the designated haulee

that crap happened to me on both my EFs (when I had 2) at the drag strip of all places. Make sure and torque that biotch!

Ben

Yeah Ben, I remember reading your post when it happened to you because it was right after it happened to me at the track. After that, a bunch of us double checked that bolt.

i forgot about this for awhile, but i just checked the posted results for my first autox and i placed 10th out of 20 in STS. i figure thats pretty good for a first time driver. lots of room for improvement. i guess ill just have to drive more.

it sux that i only get to participate in events from now until june 30. i leave for the naval academy and then who knows how long it will be before i can drive my car again.
