Upgrading headers?

I have a 92 gsr with a newer b18c1 swap that im just about done building, full n/a build. And i was looking to upgrade headers, its probably a stupid question, but do i look into headers for the motor itself or ones made for the car??

Anything for a bseries will work.

ok cool thats what i thought, thanks man

That statement isn’t 100% true, there are some headers designed for b18a/b motors or b16’s which will NOT clear the oil pan on a b18c. But chances are slim you’re considering any of those headers anyway.

If you’re looking for maximum power gains then be sure to opt for something with a 2.5" collector like the one below. If you’re doing a “full” build as stated then you’d be wasting your money with anything smaller than 2.5". And make sure to pair it with a 2.5" highflow cat. 2.5" exhaust is a good idea as well, but 2.25"/60mm will be fine so long as the collector and cat are 2.5"

Best bang for the buck header you’ll find that also has decent ground clearance: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2933774

Let’s not forget the dreaded front crossmember clearance issue… Virtually any 1-piece or 4-1 header will hit the crossmember and require notching or replacing it with a traction bar.

So true. What an awkward design.

I wonder if the Toda replica would fit with the stock crossmember, seems like there’s tons of room. But I have a traction bar, so… Even if it does fit you’d likely have to remove the crossmember to install it, then reinstall the crossmember.

That’s how I did mine… gave me an idea as where to notch and how much.

Indeed, funny the quirks of a G2.

I use the jdm itr 2.5 header. Puts out decent power and with the heat shield it looks bone stock. popped my hood a couple times and cops never said anything. I did have to cut out some of the crossmember tho as usual.

The 4-1 JDM header or the 4-2-1 header?

my bad. jdm 4-1

Toda replica clears the crossmember. You have to drop it a little to get the header in tho.
