I have never had USDM headlights, I bought car with 1 pieces, so i don’t know the USDM headlights very well, But what I would like to know is, the rubber piece that holds the bulb on 1 pieces, does the USDM ones ave it also? and if so will it fit into the JDM headlights? that was I can just get a 9004 or 9007(cant remember which) HID kit, and save me the hassle of finding a H4H hid kit.
damnit… i’m in the midst of searching and keep finding dead end threads like this. Thing is… i already ordered my 9004 HIDs like a n00b. my car also came with JDM headlights so i had no clue they were different to begin with! can’t u just dremel the JDM housing a bit to make the 9004 bulbs fit? it’s just a physical barrier, i’m sure a little dremel mod can fix it?
FYI Dxr, You’ll see on the 9004 bulb theres a little plastic ring that stops the bulb from sitting all the way in flush. Just drmel that ring off of the bulb housing (not the headlight housing). Once you get rid of the ring it almost sits perfectly in there. Not sure how it shines on the road cuz i havent gotten that far but the bulbs are cheap and this way you can still use H4h’s if you decide down the road cuz you havent modified the housing.
i hope you guys realize theres a reason why theres so many different bulbs out there… bulbs have different filament positioning, length, axis, etc. A reflector bowl is designed to work with that specific bulb.
the 9004 bulb is completely different than an H4H bulb.
first of all the filament inside a 9004 bulb sits transversely. meaning it goes across horizontally, (for a halogen bulb, for a HID bulb it sits vertically. more reason not to use 9004 HID kits at all but…)
an H4H bulb on the other hand has axial filaments, (goes vertically)
also the 9004’s filament is higher relative to the base than an H4Hs
and thats the reason why 9004s shine so high on the road compared to the H4Hs because the filament sits further in the headlight’s reflector bowl.
and honestly its not that hard to find H4H HIDs
theres some on ebay.
and if you do end up modifying your JDMs… good luck selling them
