well i unknowingly bought a 4 door jdm rear bumper support from password jdm thinking it was a 2 door one… after some researching i heard that my jdm 4 dr support might work on my 2dr bumper cover. i tried that support on my new 2 door rear bumper cover, but it didnt fit :(. i noticed that the 2 door support is missing one of the 4 studs that attaches it to the car. since i have to fix that, i might as well try and modify it to be as much like the jdm rear bumper support as possible. has anyone cut down their usdm supports in the rear? this is a racecar so no worries about crashes, potential damage etc… im strictly concerned on cutting 90% of the weight out of the rear support. any help would be much appreciated!
after looking at the support for a while what i think im going to do is cut off everything below the upper section that screws to the bumper cover with 8 or so shitty aluminium screws. then im going to fabricate some sort of braced L-bracket and then install some studs or weld some bolts into that so that i can bolt the new support to the car. thats basically what the jdm support is anyway, so i figure this should work. pics to come…
i found this thread, in which one newbie member got seriously flamed for considering removing the bumper support all together…

this is not what i want to start in this thread. anyone that says anything about safety or what might happen in a crash reserves the right to be called a senseless fool and i get to say i told you so. my car is a racecar, plain and simple. i drive it on the street sometime, and ill take the chance on running with jdm, modified, or no bumper supports. what i am here to seriously obtain an answer about is what is the best method of rear bumper loss. my car will have two three hole cf diffusers on the back to help elieviate rear wind trapped under the bumper. i want a support, particularly along the top where it bolts to the bumper, but other than that id like to see as little mass as possible. i just want enough for it not to vibrate and hold shape? anyone have any ideas or input?
