using ls ecu on vtec for short time?

after you spend all your money on a swap and throw it in your g2 but have to change everything to obd1 including new vtec ecu… can i use my non-vtec ecu till i sell some stuff and make enough money to get a vtec ecu? will this damage the engine? i know the power will blow, but i just dont want to harm the engine! or should i just keep it sittin in the garage till i can afford an ecu>
thanks again guys for all your help

Right now I am running the OBD1 LS ecu on a b16…your right it sucks…1.6litre non-vtec. But it will run just no vtec and the fuel maps are obviously different. HtH. I don’t think it will hurt it but not sure.

you should be fine running the non vtec ecu. I’ve heard of a few people doing that before. Some people actually just run a chipped ls ecu w/ a separate rpm activated switch to run vtec.

are you sure you know what you’re getting into by switching from non obd to obd1??? I would strongly suggest doing this before the engine goes in. Switching to obd1 is not as simple as just buying an obd ecu, distributor, and injectors. You have to deal w/ the wiring itself. I’m hopefully gonna be swapping out my entire stock wiring harness in favor of a 92-93 gsr one.

my car is already obd1 its from a 93 so all i need is to change the motor to obd 1 which just consists of the injectors, feul rail distributor and ecu, 91 is non obd so yeah that would be a pain, but i asked also in another forum about just changing the wiring harness to a 92 gsr and i was told gsr harness’ will not work on a ls gs or non gsr car? if you know for fact other wise please let me know? if you changed to gsr harness then you wouldnt have to do 3 wires for ecu correct?
thanx

you can use your stock injectors in the engine. you can also use your stock distributor (just cut one leg off). That way you can save yourself a few bucks.

where did you hear that a gsr wiring harness wouldn’t work in an rs/ls/gs ?? I figure its not gonna be easy, but i don’t see how it would be impossible. Just yank the old non obd one, and put the gsr one in, right? I’m getting a whole parts car (gsr) so i should have all the parts.

yes, if you switch to a gsr wiring harness you won’t have to add wires. But i’d say add the wires before thinking about swapping harnesses. GSR wiring harness’s are hard to find, very expensive, and its not an easy task to swap it in. Much more cost effective just to run the extra wires.

i have a jdm b16a and cant use all the jdm wiring ecu etc will a 92 gs-r harness work on this engine and will a 94 gs-r ecu plug right in no extra wires… if so please let me no asap as i have a chance to get this set up

92-93 GSR harnesses don’t work in an Integra that originally had an LS motor. RS, LS, LS-S, or GS.

thats what he said and jetspd seems to know alot in the hybrid forums, i had the chance to get the harness as well so if it works for you let me know

heres the post

heres where the post is but i changed from a 96 to 94 ecu cause 96 is obd2 check it out and email him and let me know what you find… thanx

interesting. I’ve also talked to elmer about the wiring harness swap. he told me that it’d be possible, but that i’d have to swap out the whole dash wiring harness.

i’m guessing he just told you it wouldn’t work because its a lot of work and not even worth thinking about doing in your position. Unfortunately its basically my only option, so i hope its possible, and hopefully not extremely difficult.
