How do i know if my vacuum is bad??
Is it not picking up dirt, or did the little spinny things stop turning?
If it is not picking up dirt but you can hear it running, you might want to change the bag and then check for clogs in the hose (if it isn’t an upright.)
If the brush spinny things aren’t moving it might be some string or thread wrapped around them. Also, some units used belts to turn those things, so your belts might be bad. If this doesn’t help, describe your problem a little more clearly.
the problem i’m having is that my idle fluctuates. when i step on the brakes or turn on my lights.
I changed my PCV valve, rotor, alternator, wire, distributor cap and still it does it. i’m wondering if it’s my vacuum or not so i dont have to waste my money changeing parts and still does the same thing. its frustrateing when i brought it to get it dianosed and they diagnosed it was the PCV valve but it wasn’t…!!! pissed me off…

Does your boost gauge read vacuum? If not, try hooking up a vacuum gauge, you should read 20-25HG at idle.
Does your car run fine when you hit the throttle? Is it just the fluctuation when you hit the brakes, turn on the headlights, etc? Did you replace your alternator with a new one or a re-used unit? Could be your IAC valve.
well this may sound stupid but i think it is electrical sounds like a bad ground to me … do you have a popping in your Sound system ??? or can you here a whinning noise when u r driving ???
did u install or have someone install a sound system lately ??
only when i’m in a full stop, and just pressing on the brakes seems like my car is gonna die and shakes a lot and then when i release the brakes puts back to 1 1/2. and its never stays at one idle. also when i have my lights on. always shakes and car is going to die on me. FYI my car is a manual.
Electrical, i dont think theres anything wrong. no humming sound or anything from my system

hey thats freaking crazy, im having the exact problem, it suks a$$, becuase im always afraid my car will die , since it dips so low…so i just give it low constant gas…hahah… sounds funny but hey its better then stalling. so is it the ground? where is the iac vavle, didnt check my haynes manual for it yet. could it really be the alternator? how, and i do hear a whinning noise slightly what is it…i do hear the whining noise

Im having the same problem… ( step on brake or turn on light the idle drops) my idle is never still… it’s always fluctuating… wtf could be wrong with it?
if its IAC valve … how much would that cost to get? and is it hard to replace?

I was having the same problems. I I replaced the distributor, cap , rotor, wires, water pump, valve cover gasket , timng belt , all hoses and belts and it seems to be better now but my idel is still pretty low. I brought it into Honda and and they took a look at it and they checked my timing and set my idle to the spec at 750 +/- 50 rpms and it seems to be ok now. It still shakes a bit at times but doesn’t drrop to dangerously low as it used to . I would reccomend you check your timing amd alternator.
hey Tegrags, is the whining you hear at 1K-1.5K RPMs? I have the same problem… lights are dimming bad when I step on the brakes… I was told the whining could be caused by the alt belt, so i’m gonna be replacing it tomorrow…
