Valve Clearance and timing Belt tension

Can someone please give me a run down on the procedure for checking valve clearance and adjusting timing belt tension ? Please its much appreciated …its for a B18a1

Valve clearance is set one cylinder at a time. The cylinder has to be at TDC on the compression stroke so that all valves are closed. You basically measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the rocker and adjust as necessary. Timing belt tension can be adjusted by loosening the tensioner, taking up the slack, then retightening. If you’re unfamiliar with doing this I strongly suggest you buy a service manual and follow it closely, or take it to a shop. Those are both things that if done improperly can ruin an engine. Just curious but why do you need to do either? Loud ticking valves? Timing belt tension is usually only reset when installing a new belt.

I’m doing this because I cracked my cylinder head and I am replacing it with another . I took the new head to the machine shop to get cleaned and checked for flatness , if the springs and valves were never removed should I still che k for valve clearance or will it be fine?

Oh ok yes when you you reinstall the head you should check the clearance.

no, you need to check and set each cylinder.
