Leak valve xover
Mkay so changed my valve cover today, didn’t replace my gasket cause I just changed it about 3 weeks ago. Everything was going good when I started it, it kinda had a low idle at first then I went to picked up my brother started noticing that my idle is going good. But when I stopped I popped the hood to check and bam it’s smoking from the header.
What’s wrong with it?
Leak on the bottom of my car,
you’re serious right? lol As I was reading your typing
find where ur leaks coming from. replace that seal/gasket. torque back to specs and dont leave any oil mess on stuff that gets hot.
like the op said and don’t go nuts tightening the bolts also check to make sure the mating surfaces are clear.
So if I tighten the bolts too much then it’ll cause it to leak? Is this right? I didn’t used a torfqur qrench torque wrench just kinda tighten it
Without a torque wrench, how will you know if there are tightened enough? For some reason I want to say that the torque specs on the VC bolts are something around 83-95 in/lb.
If you over tighten them, you risk breaking them. Not fun. Find the leak, and replace the seal(s)/gasket(s).
I will second that, DO NOT overtighten those bolts. It wont cause a leak it will snap the studs off then you have a mess to get them out and re-thread new ones and blah blah.
I dont have a torque wrench either (though i should) so basically tighten them down until they are snug, then give them a little half turn more. that should do it.
As for your leak, that valve cover gasket can come un-seated when you are replacing the valve cover. Some poeple use a little honda bond (or high heat silicone) to keep the corners in place while you place the valve cover back on. Also as the previous poster suggested make sure the the channel inside the valve cover is free and clear of debris as well as the mating surface on the head. Check all of these things carefully and you should be good togo.
Und out that th smioke is coming from the header area? I’m still not really sure what’s wrong but I think I’m gonna take it to 360 imports tomorrow maybe they can give me ideas…
sure you didn’t just get oil on the manifold when you had the vc off? it would take a while to burn off.
and yes, as stated, use a dab of sealant at the corners of the cam arches
Yes I’m pretty sure it’s just not the oil that spilt when I took the cover odd. Its been smoking for like 2 days now I’m pretty sure all the oils are gone. And it’s like smoking by the header area. I have a fat leak under the car too!
well, if the gaskets only a week old, and it didn’t get pinched, i would just pull the cover off again, make sure the gasket and mating surface are both clean, dab a little silicon on the sharp corners and torque to spec
Yeah but why is it leaking super bad? I don’t get it.
you must have pinched it. or got something caught in there
Guys it’s not leakjg on the valve cver but under my car! Lol
So get under the car and start looking around for leaks.
No one here can pin point your leak if we can’t see it and you have no idea where the leak is coming from.
You will go for days with assumptions on what it could be until you provide us with better details on where the leak is coming from aside from it’s “under the car.”
^^ exactly. Get under there and look around. If you cannot find a definitive spot where the oil is leaking from, clean everything, and re-inspect every few days to see where the oil is seeping from.
