Valve Covers

looks like high heat paint, masking tape and a whole lotta patience! I think…NICE JOB for a DIY!

mine

Is it invisible?

he probably did it just like any custom painter or graffiti artist. Paint the whole cover with the first layer, in that case possibly red. Then tape off what you want to stay red then paint over with the second layer in gold. He might have done it gold then red but you get the point. (of course choose your own colors to keep your work original lol)

Very nice everyone. I enjoyed all of them, especially the one that resembles the Arizona state flag.

thanks for this thread, i need ideas as well. I think im going with the gold metallic. I was about to sell my 2nd valve cover, def. not anymore

He probably used the same technique this guy used (copy & paste link):

92BlueTeg’s method is the simplist way to do it.

link dont work

he had a thread about it…he used tape lol if i’m remembering it correctly. if you really want your stand to stand out, then you should do some sort of image, rather than color itself. They always get a lot more attention.

I sprayed the whole thing gold, let it dry, taped the entire thing, used a compass and a ruler to make the sun design, cut it out with an exacto knife, then sprayed the red.

Haven’t gotten any decent photos yet… but you get the point…

That looks like a piece of gum, or an icebreaker. Looks good.

haha nice, Ill get pics of my new one tommorrow.

Nice, i just got an update on mine today. Its all primed, hopefully it will be done in a week.

Colin- nice!

did you just barley touch the nozzle and do it for short bursts?

wow! thats nice ^

Probably going to do this over. I have another one sitting waiting to be refinsihed. Not too happy with how clean this one turn out.

It actually took some ingenuity and practice to get it to work right. There was no way it would come out in large enough drops from a standard spray can nozzle. Even tried nozzles from other things like starting fluid and penetrating lube as well as modifying nozzles to try and get a larger hole for the paint to come out of. Ended up using a “custom” length “straw” on the end of the nozzle and just the right technique of application. (used the red tube that is on the end of many spray lubricants, brakleen…etc and just cut it down a bit). Oh, and the white is frost white, so it’ll match my car

I’m sure I could have gotten it even better with a couple more tries and maybe some more attempts at figuring out how to create larger drops of paint. It actually looks better in person, it was so bright when I was taking the pics a lot of the color is washed out by the brightness of the white. We are going to do the same thing with my friend’s LS valve cover but probably use multiple colors, maybe pink and green. I had wanted to do another color
like green but didn’t want to buy a whole can of paint just for a couple drops of paint, especially when this was mainly a joke when I started out.

Mine. I did this about a year ago,
