valve springs and retainers with cams?

I was thinking about buying some crower cams and I was wondering if getting the valve springs and titanium retainers would help much? if so how much?

also if any of you has any aftermarket cams was there any noticeable increase in power?

Thanks

getting springs and retainers is a good idea, especially the springs. If you don’t plan on reving past the stock redline, then you don’t really need springs. Because its in the higher rpms where they really help (by preventing valve float).

the lighter retainers aren’t needed either. but they are nice. by reducing weight they make it a little safer to rev higher, and easier to rev higher.

cams are just about the best mod out there as far as power goes. there isn’t any other bolt on mod that will give you the same amount of power that cams will. Much better than i/h/e. However to take full advantage of your cams you’ll want to get i/h/e, raised rev limiter, reprogrammed ecu, and raised compression… the more you mod, the better.

Thanks, yeah i think i might get the springs as well. i already have i/h/e with some other mods so its good to know that it’ll work well. thanks for the info.

Also, something to add to what Colin said, run the proper spring with the cams that you are running. Let say for example, run Toda valve springs with Toda cams…Crower with Crower…ITR valve springs with ITR or CTR cams…etc. Running a really stiff spring setup with a cams that don’t require such a stiff spring is a bad idea. Stiffer springs cause premature valve seat wear as well as a slight amount of parasitic power loss. It requires more effort for the cams to push the valves down. So don’t go running Crower springs with CTR cams. It’s overkill. Hope this helps.

Yeah, i was gonna get crower springs woth crower cams, but thanks anyway its good to know. but one thing is if i dont get the springs will the stock ones be ok? i mean like will it all work well/
