The radiator fan stays on indefinitely after the car is turned off. I know this has happened to a few people, and it occasionally happens to me. While you’re waiting for the time/part/money to fix it, there’s a quick thing you can do after you shut off the car to keep that fan off.
Solution:
Put the key in the ignition and flick it back between the run position (where you can hear the fuel pump) and off. Usually I just flip it back and forth 5 times, and the fans cuts off after that.
The fan can stay on for up to 15 minutes or something according to the manual, but that should only be after a very long drive. My fan was staying on after a ten minute drive, and it would never turn off. People have left their cars and come back to a dead battery because of this problem.
thats funny mine never turn on, even when i turn on the car, i dont know why i have them if they never turn on, but my engine never overheats, only when its low on whater does the temp needle start moving towards the hot side, they say its the thermostat and that its a cheap thing to fix, but the funnier thing is that i dont know what the hell a thermostat is!! they told me where it went and i checked it out and i found nothing,
hmmm maybe cause i dont know what it is, i didnt see it!!
yeah on mine I would start the car for like 5 minutes and shut it off and the fans would come on for a couple of minutes. I never had a problem with a dead battery though.
do you guys have 92-93’s? i wish mine would do that… i have a 90. during the summer i would stick a big floor fan in my engine bay after i got home haha
Hey guys I had the same problem I founf out it was the fan switch with is found just behind the thremastat. I just unpluged the wire from it and but a jumper in it and it only comes on when the car is on and turns off when you turn the car off but I would repace it soon if you do this. You can get it from acura for a bout 60 dollors, I found it never overheated and it helped the car run better… ps i got this info from acura…
Do you have a pic or an howto for the jumper thing? My radiator fan relay went out, instead of spending $50 bucks, I just took one from my a/c fan. I don’t use the a/c anyway. Please let me know.
I have a 92 Integra, Never have a Prob with the Fan Coming on when I shut the car off. Well my dad has a 90 Integra and he has been having this prob with his fan coming on with car is shut off. Well WHen I drive it I have the same prob. When I shut off the car it comes on so what I do is Start it and Cut on the A/c For a Sec then cut the a/c off and then turn off the car and it seems to stop the fan from running when the car is off.
Interestingly enough on my old 90 teg I broke spark plugs i nthe head so had to take it off and when I put everything back my fan started working again… before I did it the fan would never come on after I cut the car off… afterwards it worked great. I’m thinking it was the new coolant I put in it but I dunno. lot of other stuff is changed when u take the head off.
Anyhoo, the fan on my 93 never comes on after I cut the car off… kinda weird.
where is the radiator fan relay? my fan only comes on when i use the AC i dont think it has ever came on while driving in the summer or after long drives. i got a 93ls if that helps
I don’t suppose there’s a how-to on building a relay to keep the radiator fan on with a switch? I’ve got a '91 LS and I’m getting overheating problem but the fan rarely comes on. I’ve had thermastat changed, coolent flushed, no leaks, but coolent would overflow to the reservoir and overflow that! I’ve burped the car too…
my mom’s accord had this porblem. her battery straight died cuz of it. we unplugged the fan for a week until she was able to get it fixed. she just replaced the fan all together. everything is fine now. i guess something was wrong with the electrical plug coming from the fan? beats me.
im not sure if the fan is controlled b the therostat or not. but a wayto fix the staying on is tieing it into your swiched power. i haventevenlooked at mine. but find the wre that has 12 vots when the fan is on, cut it tie it into the switched power (with a fuse) at the ignition harness. someone correct me if im wong but it should e the thick Black\White wire. youll find it coming out of the steering colum going towars the fuse box. if you have airbags make surenot to mess with anyting wrapped in yellow tape. Email me with any wiring questions. i do ths stf for a living ill be glad to help AlexH5562@aol.com

I’ve got my radiator fan hooked up to a switch. It’s easy, there’s a relay on the passenger side of the radiator right behind the headlight, it’s got a black rubber boot over it. Pull it apart, take off the relay. Look at the plug with the clip part facing up, the two connections on the right side need to be jumped with the switch.
Okay I’ve gotten some questions regarding taking that connection off.
Here’s how I figured out that it keeps the fan off when the key is out of the ignition.
I bought my 90 ls last november, and being I live in MN, even though I have a heated garage, I don’t care to work on damp soggy cars. So I postponed anything non critical until summer.
Well I noticed when I was replacing the motor ground, there was a connection hanging off and not plugged in. I didn’t have time to mess with it, and didn’t want to get thrown a CEL code so I just left it.
Last weekend I finally got around to checking it out, (yes, I have no time it seems heh 2mnths later …). I plugged it in, and started the teg up. Nothing diffrent, no CEL codes, everything was fine. Popped the hood, everything seemed okay. Turned it off, and walked away, only to hear the fan still running. Wa La, that is what it did. By the looks of the grime on the connection it had been unplugged for a long long time (i had to clean it rather well before plugging it back in).
In turn, that’s how I figured it out. Keep in mind, my car burns hardly any oil except at WOT, no leaks, no low fluids ever. And it has 160,xxx on it. I did drive around all day with it plugged in, and there was no diffrence in anything, engine temp, drivablitliy, nada.
