There is a strong vibration that happens during ACCELERATION and normal driving, and whenever I go over a bump. Its so strong that its shakes the entire car.
It feels like its coming from the driver’s side.
My Setup:
1992 Integra RS
JDM B16a
92 GSR YS1 Tranny W/ ITR LSD (custom built)
Right (Pass.) Axle- 97 ITR
Left (Driver) Axle- STOCK
Int. Shaft- STOCK
IF I TURN THE WHEELS TO THE LEFT (at all) the vibration will not happen at all (even during acceleration).
DO I POSSIBLY NEED A LONGER AXLE on the driver’s side?
well considering i do not have your problem and the only difference in our drivetrain is the 97 itr axle, I would suspect that that is your problem unless something has failed.
Is there a reason why you used a different axle than what the car wanted from the manufacturer?
.J.- I think you know why I would think I need a 97’ Type R axle, I am using a different axle because I have a different differential. I am doing everything I can to fix this problem…
Ever since I installed the 97 axle, it does not vibrate when turning to the left.
Which leads me to believe that installing one on the otherside would correct the problem…
I contacted Ricky’s Auto Center (Raceup) in Florida to see if they could tell me what it is…they seem to think that the LSD is locking up…
g2ls/vtec: If you have the same setup but using stock axles, then something has to be wrong with mine…because Ive tried stock axles…
Does anyone know why it wouldn’t vibrate when I turn to the left?
Reeve,
Whoever told you to use a ITR axle with a ITR diff is just plain wrong and is handing out frightningly bad advice. You do not use axles for the diff, you use axles based on the chassis and the trans casing.
A differential cannot lock up while in use, especially if your not having any problems with it while you are putting the car under load while cornering. If your having some kind of vibration, it has to be the axles or some part of them, CV joints, incorrect length etc, etc.

Originally posted by reeve Would you agree the only way to be sure, is to buy OEM Honda/Acura axles…or would a parts store remanufacture be ok?
If you knew what it took to make an axle you would never buy a reman again. A 5-angle lathe is a beast and trusting some company who does everything and specializes in nothing is not something I want on my car, and dont have.
Reeve,
Sorry, I actually didn’t realize that you were the guy that bought John’s tranny.
As for your question regarding, “how do I know that it isn’t the diff…” its because a diff actually doesn’t do much other then hold the axles. It either works or it doesn’t. The only part of a diff that can fail is the bearings that are attached to the ends of the spline shafts and when they go, YOU KNOW IT, as in the car ceases to able to roll!
Now, a “LSD” is unique to a standard diff in that it has the ability to balance power from wheel to wheel, but both a LSD and a diff function in the same way when moving in a straight line. There is no part of a LSD that could “wobble.” If the internals of a diff break, as in the spider gears, seals etc. then the LSD may lose its ability to distribute power, but it will do its original job, which is just to hold the axles. Understand?

ok i have almost the exact same problem, it’s not a typical axle or wheel bearing sound/vibration
mine happens when i turn left and does not happen at all when i turn right. it doesnt happen allways when im going straight tho. only when im coming out of a left hand turn and untill it gets straight. sometimes i hear it sometimes when i go straight from a stop, but other than that i don’t hear it. any clues?!?
i have reaplced the axle and wheel bearing trying to fix it, but it’s still doing it.
Only buy reman’s from sears. Their suppliers vary from store to store, but because it is sears you can brake it as many times as you want and they have to replace it for free. Then again, my friend shattered a sears-purchased reman in his '90 ls a few days ago. How many of you have ever seen an axle SHATTER?

Well unless they start paying for towing fees and my time to remove and replace it over and over again, I will stand by OEM axles.
reeve: i don’t have a solution for you problem but i can give you some advise DON"T DO BUSSINESS WITH RICKYS AUTO CENTER. I live in south florida the guy is a scamer i’ve never dealt with him but i have more frends than i can count with my fingers and toes that have gotten scamed by that guy.
