Vibration on my steering wheel

Hello G2IC i have a little problem that’s been bothering me i have a 91 integra gs it has 123k miles automatic yes i knw -.- but down the line iam going to swap it for manual but back to the topic at hand every time i go maybe 45mph+ when i brake my steering wheel will shake and at the time i had a worn out tire in the first which made the steering wheel shake as i go fast, now i have new tires and it only shakes when i brake i hope anyone can shine some light the whole car is stock and im new thank you
note before i got the new tires one day i ran over a small crate :frowning: on the right side of the car

check your brakes. Whens the last time you replaced the pads and turned the rotors? Rotors need turning most likely the problem.

this^^ rotors are toast.

brake rotors are warped from excessive heat most likely. You can use a micrometer to check and see if there is enough material for resurfacing. I would just replace them. Also make sure that the caliper slides freely during operation.

@namekteg i check there still plenty of life in the brake pads both inner and outer, also i turn my rotors to see they look find and the surface of the rotor looks good though

surface may look good, but vibrating when coming to a stop…thats brakes…i’m 99% sure its your rotors as well…get them turned or replace em. my car is doing the same, i just have alot going on right now so its hard for me to set aside time to order and get them installed…having a hard enough time to get someone to help me install my MC right now

@DAGeetee74 when i looked there was alot of grease off my cv axles the boot is also ripped? i been thinking of replacing the motor mounts there very worn out when im at a stop my dash vibrates lol it annoys me haha

@integra_hot should i just replace the rotors since my pads still have alot of life in them? and thanks man for the advise really helps im new to the whole hand on work so this is a good way to learn about my car

btw thanks to all of you that took time to look this thread and advise all of you are given me

its only $20 and considering it’s been running on warped rotors, yea…i would. i know my DS caliper is also f’d so i have to replace that as well…you might not have to, but check and make sure your caliper isnt locked/seized

@integra_hot ohh ok for sure thanks and to check if my caliper is seized it that bolt with a wire wraped around that holds the parking cable or line right ??

no…when you turn in the caliper piston, if its difficult to push in…or if there is more brake dust on one wheel than the other…sign for seized caliper

if it was my rotor wouldnt i get play in my pedal since my rotors are wraped and was up with all the grease all over my lca ? is it from my cv axle

what?

Dude if it is shaking when you brake…it’s your brakes hands down. Motor mounts could be making it worse in which case your steering wheel will be shaking real bad while idling if they are toast. Your busted axles are not helping either if they have been busted a while.

Do yourself a favor and for peace of mind… Replace the pads regardless of how they look, get the calipers turned if you’re able to, grease EVERYTHING that you’re supposed to on the caliper, and replace the axles (get the lifetime auto zone ones as they are only like $52 a side). If you are short on money…get the rotors turned and re-grease everything first. Then if it doesn’t fix it, calipers probably need a re-build which is easy.

Mine was shaking really bad when braking on the freeway…replaced pads, rotors, and greased everything correctly and its perfect now.

@da6YO i am i already order the rotor and getting the pads soon, i just thinking if my rotors are toasted should my brake pedal getting vibration thats all im saying? and what i mention about my last post is when i took the front wheel off my DA i saw alot of grease all over the lower control arm. I was just wondering where it was coming from ?

did you inspect your cv axle

Grease would have to be from the CV…it happens to all of us. If the CV was causing the shaking it would be happening continuously, not just during braking.

And since the brake system is hydraulic…you wouldn’t really feel too much vibration in the pedal specifically. You will feel vibration yes, but it would be more so from the whole front end shaking while you brake. Just remember, rotors can “look ok” and be totally screwed. If you run your finger nail down the rotor vertically and you feel any bumps…needs to be turned or replaced. I think that “technically”, rotors are supposed to get turned every time the pads are replaced, I think.

Vibration while braking (no vibrations any other time) felt in steering wheel=warped front rotors
Vibration while braking (no othe vibrations felt at any other time) felt in pedal= warped rear rotors

If you got grease on your rotors and pads i would replace them. Sounds like the brakes need work all the way around IMO

thanks everyone for helping me out im getting to work on the rotors and new pads il post pic soon to show you guys
