Vinyl Wrapping

I have been considering repainting my DA project car because the previous owner spray painted it black, but then I saw vinyl wrapping. I was thinking of doing the hood, hatch/trunk carbon fiber and the rest glossy white. Has anyone had experience with this? how much material would I need? What kind is the best? Thanks

Well I wouldn’t attempt to do the whole car yourself. I don’t think it’s very easy. There are lots of companies that do it, but I think it’s fairly pricey.

Just saw a new Camaro wrapped in flat white vinyl the other day. Looks really good, only reason I could tell it was vinyl is cause it was a little wrinkled around the corners of the ground effects.

Well me and a friend are planning on doing it panel by panel. first the hood, hatch. Then bumpers, then doors, then fender. I looked at everything and it looks like it’ll cost $100 for the regular and $80 in carbon fiber.

Just make sure to take your time, and you have the proper tools. also go by what you said panel by panel, my buddy did his DA that way one solid matte black and it looks good.

How much did it cost him? Where did he get the vinyl? I changed my mind to doing all black to save money. How much square footage of it do you think I would need for the whole car?

funny you should ask…ill be wrapping mine as well after the summer. i measured every panel on the car (2 door), and calculated it to be around 13 yards (37 feet minimum, with no errors wrapping it). this was figured with a 60" roll width.

autocrosskid - i have no clue where you came up with $80-$100 to do the whole car…thats not even close to the cheapest i have found, and im going direct through a distributor…

I messed up on my research and saw a guy do a e90 for $120 in materials, now im calculating around $300. I will be doing mine in the fall too. Thanks for the link I will definitely order from them

I have found 45sq ft of 3M 1080 Scotchprint for $115 shipped on ebay in matte black. It comes in 5’ x 9’ rolls. But the 60’’ rolls seem better

metrostyling sells 60" x 360" roll for $360. now360" = 30ft = 10 yards. you will still be a little short,it wont do the whole car. you need at least 37 ft. and thats if you dont screw it up  oh and 60" is 5 feet…

looks like you could probly do it for that 30 yard roll, and add another 8ft roll, brings ya up to $465 total. aint cheap, but alot less expensive than paint.

so far, it seems that place i linked you to, is pretty competitive with anywhere else you can buy it retail. i searched a ton for this stuff. also, i believe the 3M scotchprint is one of the better materials…although ive never used it before.

Yeah I heard the 3M doesnt leave anything if you decide to remove it and that it is very durable

Make sure you get a heat gun for all those wrinkles
