Swaping in a jdm gs-r into a 92-93 ls/gs/rs. Bought a b17 vtec engine harness…beside the ecu, what else do I need to make the vtec to work… Do I need to add the vtec from motor to ecu?? or should the b17 already have the wire from enigne to ecu???
you cant really use the gsr harness without quite a bit of work. just run a vtec sub harness. do some research before you consider a swap.
ok so i check everything n came to a problom.the car is a 93 rs with b17 harenss will that work? cuz the engine harness driver side firewall has 2 plug while the engine plug has 1.now the passanger side has 2 and the engine harness has 3.now the qustion is can i used the b17 harness on my 93 rs cuz seem like i cant.any help would be great thanks.
I just did a JDM 94 SIR-G swap into my 92 GSR
It was a wiring nightmare, (not a problem for me though). The reason being, that everyone i talked to said “yep it just bolts right up and the electrical connectors just hook right up, then start 'er up.”
:umno:
(I wanted to keep my B17 wiring harness with the motor)
my point is I have learned a tremendous amount. My biggest obstacle was finding correct information. I have that now. So, if you need some wiring diagrams or whatever let me know. A lot of the info i found on the internet was wrong.
Give us some more specifics about your car and the motor going in. (try to be less vague) what year motor,
Will the motor come with the original wiring harness?
What computer are you going to be using with it?
the motor is a jdm 94 gsr b18c ,p72 obd1,b17 harness,ys1 tranny, and all this is going into a 93 rs .now what will i need to do beside change over parts from motor to motor and rewire.
Use your LS harness and add the VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, knock sensor (if your ECU has it) connectors and wiring from the B17 harness. Your GSR engine has the inverted manifold and dual runners if you are using the stock manifold. You need a P72 ECU or a P72 chip in a VTEC ECU to make the secondary runnners work. Its known as the IAB (Intake Air Bypass). The B17 does not have this function so the connector does not exist on the B17 harness. The IAB stuff is located under the manifold. You can ignore it but you will suffer a loss of mid range torque. If you need a more detailed explanation of where the wires go, let me know.
