Warning: Maaco (long vent)

Even after reading some of the horror stories about Macco or Maaco or whatever, I decided to go to this place anyways because it was recommended to me by TWO people. My teg had rust appearing around each upper corner of the windshield. So they had to take the windshield out to get to the source and do the job right. Four days later I pick up the car, windshield was just reinstalled, all looks good. Then I take a closer look at the car. Interior trim loose, dash completely covered in paint overspray, not dust but day old paint overspray. Windshield mouldings loose (they snapped in place when I pressed down on them) and overspray galore all over the black window trim moulding. 4 days without a car, and $550 later (canadian) I am very dissapointed and kinda sick in the stomach after seeing the end result. Needles to say NEVER go to maco no matter what anyone says because you will get a **** end result. Luckily I have the whole week off from work so I hope to clean all of the overspray off tommorow and all should be good. Sorry for the long thread but I had to vent. I feel slightly better now!

sorry to hear about that… maaco has a reputation for those kinds of jobs though. as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for, and maaco is no exception. the car will look good for about a year, but it’s funny that’s when their warranty runs out. i had a maaco paint job done on my civic a long time ago…

sorry, but not surprised…

i got one of my old cars painted at macco, twice! they did a pretty good job on it the second time. they also had overspary inside my car and the first paintjob had fisheye and blemishes all over and even missed a couple spots (the color they painted the car was almost the same color as grey primer). after about a week of raising hell, they took my car back and repainted the whole car and scrubed and cleaned my interior. i am pretty sure if you call them up and chew them out long enough, they will fix your car!!! i wrote a two page letter complaining to the shop about their crappy work. after they painted it the second time, i was a happy camper…

Sorry to hear that man. Mind informing us which Maaco in Ontario did you get your car done?

Thanks,

Oz

hwo do you plan on cleaning the paint off?

I would have been satisfied with the whole job if they just paid more attention to the details. Otherwise it looks ok for now. At least they did a proper paint match.

The_Oz: this place is in Burlington

XDEep: to clean the overspay off I might try using a razor blade or an exacto knife or something, to remove it from the window mouldings.

A lesson learned I guess,

Pic plz I’ll like to see what they did wrong so I can tell then not to do it to my car when I take it to Macco.

:frowning:  :tsk:

well you saved a lot of money. my paint job was first quoted at $4000 just to get a factory paint job done and of course body work ect. So I went somewhere else and they said $1800 and their job was good. But then someone rammed a cart into the front bumper so it cracked the paint and then I parked under a hickory tree or something because huge hard nuts dented my car all up.

I know the feelin, I didnt get it at Maaco but still the same results at Earl Schieb…they actually mix their clearcoat in the paint so it comes out all fugly, and its chipped already…if ur gonna do it right, spend the extra cash and dont go cheap!

dude contact the BBB thats what i am in the middle of now…a lawsuit with macco…becasue they didnt match up the paint at all and this is the sec. time ive gone to them and they couldnt match there own paint…and i have a RS front lip i wanted them to hit up…and they didnt even prep much less wipe off the lip…they just sprayed it with paint and threw it in my car…well needless to say we were willing to pay for all the labor but wouldnt not pay for the work…so now were dealing with a lawsuit which were about to win…so i suggest you go complain to the better business bureau.

why dont you just bring it back to maaco and ****ing vent at them for it? i mean ****, hwo come i hear so mnay ppl dissapointed but NO ONE goes back to bitch!!!

I go back to bitch. I truely feel sorry for some of the people who have had the misfortune of handing me a badly completed repair. I sometimes say a little prayer for them before I open the door to their shop and raise cain.

And if that doesn’t work, I send my best friend’s Sicilian wife. I’ve never had to go any further than that.

did they do anything abou tit?

I decided not to go back and bitch because its just faster if I clean everything up myself. Took me about 3 hours today, but all the interior trim snapped back in place, the dash & rest of the interior cleaned up really good and I cleaned up almost all of the overspray from the window trim. It looks good again, and it only took me a few hours to do. If I went back and had them take care of all the details, it would take them forever so I just did it myself. The car looks good again, and I’ll try to forget about it.

BTW the warranty on the work is two years, so if ANYTHING starts rusting or the paints chips or peels, I will go back then.
