Rust is very tricky… You have to make sure that you get EVERY bit of it off of the surface.

After sanding it all down and getting it of the surface, BEFORE filling with putty, I would spray some Direct-To-Metal primer on there to seal the metal… Then sand that and start filling. As far as what to use for filler, prettymuch anything will get the job done… But I would stick with products made by EverCoat, they make some great stuff.

There is some stuff out there (The name is slipping my mind) that is actually composed of metal… so when you spread it on you’re actually putting a metal-putty on there. I’ve never used it but I hear great things about it.

And remember, anything deeper than 1/4" that you fill will more-than-likely end up cracking due to how brittle metal filler can be.

thanx, my stepdad mentioned something about this stuff called apoxy,(not sure on the spelling) any idea on that, he said it was three different things u mix and then aply

“Epoxy” is the name of a type of material… Epoxy, Polyester, Acrylic, etc… Its not really the name of something you would go in the body store and say “I need some epoxy!”

I’m not really familiar with any filler/epoxy that is a 3-part products… most things that I have seen or used are 2-part products.

Are you trying to fill big dents with the stuff, or just something to lightly spread on to take care of the patches that you grind down?

well on the quarter panels the rust is actually threw the metal so i want something that i can completely fill it in and get it ready for paint

If the rust is that bad you should really be welding in a new piece of metal. Filling it in with something is almost a guarantee that it will crack down the road.

But if you are dead-set on just filling it… Look into a product called Fusor. That is some mean stuff and, if you get the right product of Fusor, it will definitely be permanent and should last.

i dont have a way to get ahold of a welder so ill check into that product. thanx

grind all rust away and fill with Marglass. Its a fiberglass resign. mixes and spreads just like bondo but is waterproof and dries much harder. after body work is done, spray some etch primer on bare metal surfaces then prime with a regular laquer or achrilic (sp?) primer.

Mar glass is good stuff… Its just heavy as hell. Though it is durable.

alright thanx for the help

for rust, i used an angle grinder and grinded down all of it that i could then i went to orileys and bought some of that rust gel stuff that fights rust (its like a pink gel). put some of that over the entire area that was bare metal. let that sit for about 15 min then wipe it off and grind again. then use a da sander or some sort of sander to feather out youre edges, then primer

Do it the right way and find someone to weld for you.

navel jelly, good stuff
