water leak????

I know I’ve got a leak somewhere cuz my back seats are damp and my car is leaving puddles of water on the pavement from the back end. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet but for when I do: Where are the sunroof drain tubes? Teg tips says side panels but is that in the hatch or by the backseats?

Because you said you looked in teg tips i’ll give an answer. Your sunroof drain should be in the back panels. Not exactly the back but in the quarter rear. There should be two drains. One side for the sunroof, and the other for the antenna which will be in their respective sides. You should really check your tail lights. If there is condensation, then change your tail light gaskets and you should be okay…

The sunroof tray rusted out on my 3door. The tray rusted in the rear corners just in front of the drain tubes. I ended up replacing the tray, but put a few coats of Rustolium on before installing. The factory coating is very thin and does not offer must rust protection.

Every car that I have found in the local salvage yards have all had the same rust!

2ndjenn, is there an easy way to inspect the tray? If there are holes in the tray, wouldn’t that lead to water damage on the headliner? Also, what kind of conditions do you drive in (rainy, snowy, coastal, all or none of the above)? I’m planning on checking the sunroof and antennae drains when I get in my gaskets for the rear tailights.

The easiest way to check is to pull down the rear of the head liner. And to answer your second question , no the headliner was not damaged. The water was dripping down the drain line until the drain line had contact with the metal of the car. Once it hit the metal of the frame it would go into the spare tire well or under the rear seats. Water allways follows the path of least resistance. I live in South Florida and it rains alot.

well, both drains were clogged and not connected to the little black outlets on the sides. All is dry and fixed now so thanks for the help guys.
