what weight reduction is legal for STS, and what isnt legal? Can carpeting/ interior panels be removed?

you can strip your interior if i remember right. but i believe you have to keep your passenger seat. i always take out my spare and stuff in the trunk

No, the interior cannot be stripped. You can remove your audio system, spare tire and loose items.

You can also pull your A/C and use a light weight battery(which can be relocated to the trunk). You can replace your steering wheel with an aftermarket one which are usually a bit lighter than the stock wheel.

No stripping permitted (especially of the car). Aftermarket reclining seats are allowed as well. It doesn’t really matter because the 91’ Civic hatch is going to undercut you by at least 500lbs.

Yeah, it seems like the 88-91 Civic is the car to have for STS. The guy that just won at nationals drives a pretty under-prepared Civic and he’s from my region.
I wish that the rule was… “The car with driver can’t weigh less than XXXX lbs.”

Chris Shenfield? Yeah, he posts on H-T every now and then, and has a couple of articles in GRM. I wouldn’t say he is underprepared, though. He has the lightest possible car, GC Advanced Design shocks, and a bucket load of skill (I could use more of that).

No, Ken Motonishi. Here are the results.

I think the guy Nino is talking about has a real Si, while Chris Shenfield and Kevin McKormick drove DX or STD hybrids. It is interesting that the hybrids lost. Kevin McKormick is a past DS national champ and he beat me by a large margin at the Bremerton NT.

As long as hybrids are okay I think a '90 RS with a '92-'93 engine should be comparable to an EF hatch.

Yeah, Ken has a real Si Civic. He just got it a few months ago. The guy that came in fourth place was co-driving the car. Both guys are really fast and beat me by about 1-3 seconds on a 60 second course(at local events).
I was thinking the same thing about the RS. In fact, I was thinking about getting another car to have as a dedicated autox car(STS) just recently and was wondering how the RS would stack up with the Civic. What makes the 90 RS weigh less than the 92-93? I’m not sure if the update/backdate rules for STS are going to be around next season or not.

thought you guys might like to see where i stand before the final race this sunday (12/7/03)

heres the results

go down to STS NV3, (just press the “End” key)
