hey whats up
for a while now i have been getting this weird sound from my exhuast, i dont know how to explain it but it only happens wheni take my foot off the gas. it make this weird sound and then it makes a poping sound most of the time. the poping sound isnt a back fire its not as loud but more a little higher piched, it sounds like the pop comes from the muffler but im not sure if it really does . i have a catco cat with a 2 1/4 custom cat back with no resinator. it made the noise before the cat so i know it isnt that. but i was thinking that it might be that i dont have a resinator, or my car is runing really rich and its getting a lot of un burnt fuel, or do i have an exhaust leek some where. i dont know. has this happened to anyone else. i really want to fix what ever it is because i hate it, it make my car sound really bad

maybe a flange is off? making a small hole for the fumes to get out making ahigh pitched sound?
SOL1D: do you mean a flange not being alined right. becasue they all should be fine.
i wish i could record the sound so that you guys could listen to it because it is so hard to explain.
you know those little poping things that you can buy, they are gun powder or somthing like that all twisted up in paper and you throw them at the ground and they pop. thats what the poping sound form my exhaust sounds like. but the is another noise that happens before that, but i dont know how to explain it

I got the same thing in mine from time to time. Kind of embarassing. Its not loud, but if you’re standing next to it, it makes me do this >>

Yeah my tanabe does that! Its when the engine is idling down right? It’ll pop every once and a while when im drivng hard. But neverwhen i hit it in neutral. I love it! Of course I grew up on old triumphs so i guess that explains it.

i dotn think it is a rotted baffle in the muffler because it is a band new muffler and it did it with my other one to

its probably backfiring…since you got rid of the resonator… you can hear everything that happens in teh exhaust… no biggie… my car backfires ALL the time… so do a lot of hondas i know of
if i put a resonator on will it stop doing that beacse im thinking of puting one on soon

have you checked your spark plugs? the same thing happened to me when i had my ford probe. so one day i pulled the plugs and they had a lot of crud on them one had so much on it the gap was gone. not sure if this is your prob, but hope that helps.
B18Ateg : yeah the plugs are brand new. i think i did them like a week or 2 ago. thanks for the reply
im thinking about getting a magnaflow resonator. what should i get for the core diameter 2 inch, or 2 1/2 inch, they dont have a 2 1/4 inch.
