:gunright: damn… i just got a ys1 tranny (gs-R) in my 93 ls with a exedy stage 1 and fidanza 7.5 flywheel… before i tell u about the wierd noise, i just wanna say… WOW it feels AMAZING! THE ACCELERATION!.. THE SHORT GEARS!.. THE WAY THE REVS CLIMB SO QUICKLY!.. ok but the problem is… that when my mechanic was installing the tranny/clutch he asked if the flywheel came with special bolts because it looked like the stock flywheel bolts where gonna rub against the engine! well we put it on anyway and it was a VERY CLOSE fit but it didnt look like the bolts were rubbing against the engine… i got the car back on saturday. today (tuesday) as i was gettingin to my work parking lot my passenger side axle started clicking only when i turn right! i need a new axle! if its not one thing its another! anyway, when i got out of work i tired turning right and it wasnt making the noise anymore!! i even did a couple of sharp U-TURNS and i still didnt hear any clicking! but now when i drive my car and i take it to about 3500 RPM i hear a wheird kinda WHISTLING noise. i had my broter rev my angine at a stop and i looked under the car, and it sounds like its coming from the tranny… WHAT CAN IT BE GUYS? is the flyweel rubbing gainst the motor? or can it be the AXLE? i dont think its the axle cuz if it was it wouldnt make it at a stand still right?.. please help… ORRY FOR THE LONG EXPLANATION BUT I WANTED TO LET U GUYS KNOW ALL THE FACTS IN DETAIL:sad:
I think when i put my flywheel in there was still a lil room behind the bolts. First I was thinking maybe the flywheel was put in backwards but I doubt it would have even fit right. Sorry not much advice here but I have an 8 lb flywheel and stage 1 exedy but i’ve been looking for a short geared tranny. Where’d you get yours.
my tranny does that too! after about 3500 it starts making almost a whistling or light grinding noise. i have no idea
hey “LOCAL” how long has ur tranny been doing that noise? thats the same thing mine does! is it ok to drive?
well FUETSCH i was lucky enough to find it here on this website. i put up a TREAD in the “PARTS WANTED SECTION” and in a couple of days this guy replied with a 93 GS-R tranny for 500! i talked him down to 480… :bowthank: i was a bit nervous because i had no idea what condition the tranny was in… or if it was a short gear ys1. sure enough when my mechanic put it on he said… “wow its fast and” i drove it and at the end of second gear im only at 49-51MPH. ion my old LS tranny i would beat 61-63MPH.
oh and LOCAL do you also have a FIDANZA 7.5lbs flywheel? or anyother AFTER MARKET flywheel? i have a feeling its the flywheel making that noise

ok i FIXED it!.. i had my brother REV the engine while i was listening in the transmission area… it truns out it was just a LOOSE BOLT on the transmission mount!.. it was loose and when the engine would rev and kinda movve it would move around and make that whistling ticking noise! i tightened it up and it went away!.. thanks anyways guys… its funny how when u think its gonna be something expensive to fix it turns out to be something as simple as a loose bolt! lol 
loose bolt!!! i would imagine that could be my problem-- hope its mine. mine has been happening ever since i got the car(back in april) and im pretty sure its been getting progressively worse. i will definitially check the bolts
