Wet back seat and hatch

My back seat and hatch keep gathering water and I was wondering if there was a common area that might leak and cause this? I have heard that the taillight gaskets might need to be replaced but my seat is also getting wet and i don’t think the taillights would be the cause of that.
Thanks.

Does your car have a sunroof?

Where exactly are the areas that are getting wet? If you have a sunroof, the hose that drains the water from the sunroof may have become detached. I got a puddle in the rear corner of the hatch (passenger side). You’ll have to take out the panelling in the hatch area, mainly the back piece and rear right side. You’ll find a hose, should be like a clear hose just behind the panelling, near the rear wheel well (inside the hatch), check to see if it has become detached. If it has that may be the cause as it drains water from the sunroof to behind the wheel well outside. Re-attach it and I recommend taping it up good so it doesn’t detach again.

If you don’t have a sunroof, then I didn’t help at all haha sorry.
My other guesses would be the hatch seal (I’m not sure of the term).

HTH

I agree with Max, its likely the sunroof drain hoses he mentioned. However I would like to add that there are hoses on BOTH sides, not just the right rear.

good luck

:read: “IF” he has a sunroof, he could take shop air and blow it back from the fenderwell drain (yes, cover the sunroof end so the sludge doesn’t soil the car) and listen inside the hatch, by the side panel for a rush of air, which would indicate that the little rubber elbow, attached to the inner fender has been knocked off the drain tube. I’ve seen this before when some nimrod uses a length of wire from the sunroof end and knocks the elbow off the tube or worse, punctures the elbow.

exact same thing happened to me and the solution was as mentioned above with the sunroof drain

C’mon over Sunday, we’ll tear into it.

So, what if you don’t have a sunroof? Any ideas? I just bought my DA yesterday. I checked the trunk when I looked at the car last week, but it was dry, and no rust or anything like that. However, yesterday, it was snowing/raining the entire way home and I noticed the rear passenger side floor mat was wet, I pulled it out and the carpet was soaked back there. Nowhere else, until I opened the hatch, lifted up the carpet, and panel and there was standing water in there. The drain hole was clogged, so I unclogged that, so it won’t collect in there anymore. Now I just have to find this leak.

if your tailight(s) have water inside it could be the taillight gasket

the reason why your seats get wet is because water is leaking from the hose being unhooked and/or your tailight gaskets and whatever water is in your hatch and you stop quickly or your car is at a slant facing downwards the water is “sloshing” up over that hip into the seats.

(happened to me, until i pulled my seats and saw what was going on)

Had the same thing on my first DA, it was the tailight gaskets for me. I say check that first.

prolley ur hatch seals. and im guessing you park on a hill front facing downwards…

I know this is a problem for DA owners… where the top of the hatch meets the roof of the car. there is a gasket there on the outside of the glass, and to keep water from getting inside. thats where your leak most likely is residing. i replaced that gasket, and had no leaks… its also a good idea to blow out the sunroof drain hoses too.
