What causes BAckFires??

ever since I installed my apex N1 exhaust and an AEM short ram intake, my Teg has been backfiring? What actually causes it? And how can I fix this? I also changed the piping to 2 1/4. Thanks
Im just looking for an idea of the cause

not burning all the gas? maybe it isn’t combusting right, it needs cooler air or something.

Most car backfire in the stock format, but you just won’t hear it do to the super quiet muflers.

Backfire is caused by the engine running rich (or with more gasoline in the combustion chamber than can burn) and when the unburned gas hits the cat, it fires off. Most cars are tuned to run rich from the factory because it is safer than getting the car too close to stoich which can actually cause it to lean out, predetonate and blow a piston…

Enough?

Oh, Thanks! dat explains it

actually…

…backfiring is caused due to your engine running too rich on gas. have you done any mods to it? like intake? and if so, after you installed it, did you reset your ecu? if this is the case, look for how to reset the ecu in teg tips, because what is probably happening is that your engine may be getting more air than before, so it thinks it has to send more fuel to the engine. just a notion though.

ill try that too. thanks

Its not a real “backfire”… if it backfires… it will sound like a M1000 going off.
