I want to know what everyone has paid for their 1st gen b16a heads. I’d really like to pick one up and either do a poor man’s ITR or an ls/vtec if I’m that poor. So what’s the going rate? 1 out of every 10 complete heads I see are about $300 plus shipping which sounds fair. But a lot of them I see are $400 and up plus shipping. The reason I’m asking is because I can get one for $400 from a guy in town complete, I’m not sure if that includes the IM/TB, but is that a fair price? I’m thinking at least I don’t have to pay shipping, and there aren’t a lot of them for sale in south carolina. But you can get a complete b16a longblock for $450 from hondamotorsonline. I don’t know… I wish this hobby was a little cheaper.
If I was going to dish $300 for a head, I’d save up for another month or whatever it takes to buy the whole longblock.
Even if you didn’t need the other parts, you can sell the short block and recover your extra cost and then some.
vtec solenoid and distributors seem to be missing on 99% of all the b16 heads I see. I’m with se-37k. Save up for the whole swap. You’ll need the ecu and tranny anyway.
But I’m not looking for a b16a longblock. I just want the head. Are you suggesting I pick up a longblock and sell the shortblock? That creates a lot of work for myself. But then again I do need a PR3 ECU and want a vtec tranny so I ought to just save up a little bit longer and get a whole swap.

You can even recycle the B16A pistons if you’re going LS/VTEC for a little bit of compression bump.

i’ve been thinking about going this route… turn around and sell the short block for 250 and only have 200 in the head 
I got mine for $300. It didn’t have the intake or fuel rail but I would have replaced them anyway. Its off a 99 SI with under 20,000 miles on it.
Bought my 1st gen B16 longblock for $500canadian.
Sold the bottom end for $200canadian.
Yeaahhhhh, i’d like to find a b16 head for around 300 bucks…where are you seeing them for $300, i’ve yet to see any
