WHAT exactly is a YS1?

JDM_WhiteDa9
You are young and have a lot to learn so read an learn.
If you have a JDM LSD it will be a Torsen type. It does not work like a cluch pack LSD does. Even if someone put a Quaife in it. It is still a Torsen type. They work on a bias ratio they care alot about what the other wheel is doing (raito one wheel to the other). It is not a lock up.

The Torsen LSD interconnects drive axles with Invex gearing which allows a maximum specific ratio (bias ratio) of torque differentiation to be transmitted to each wheel. This allows the Torsen Differential to transmit the necessary amount of torque to each drive wheel in order to maintain traction of both wheels when accelerating through a turn.

thanks for explaining that to me…but i dont get it why does mine spin the same way then?

um fyi for everyone there is a short geared YS1 that DID come with a factory lsd for Japan only.

There was only 1 person that said there wasn’t

I have only seen Y1 cable tranny with LSD The same as this person

From past experiences, the Y1 cable tranny’s are the only one’s that came with LSD.

icemanGSR If you where there is info on them please let me know

While I have never seen a JDM YS1 w/LSD, I have seen it documented on more than a few occasions. It was supposedly an option in the B16A equipped XSi/RSi Integras.

In the box below the ratios it is mentioned as optional equipment.

As several members have already stated; Honda’s brain-fart on the USDM 92-93 Integras (as well as JDM/EDM/CDM, with the JDM years 1yr behind ours) was to put the same trans code on ALL manual transmissions in every trim level in the US & excluding the non-USDM models that came with D-series engines. ONLY the GS-R in the US (and the B-series Integras outside the US) came with a “short-geared” version of the YS1, and no, there is no way to tell them apart just by looking at it. You either need to drive it to check RPMs or open the case to count the teeth.

JDM_WhiteDa9 - You shouldn’t take offense to comments you receive here. “Most” members have read the same exact questions hundreds of times, so there is no lack of answers when the Search function is used. Many of us just get tired of posting the same info over and over again. Hell, many of us could keep a Word doc open with a few dozen coined responses and just cut-n-paste them over & over.

i understand you guys asnwer this all the time i know how you feel cause iat work its the same thing with ppl and their BMWs…well anyways i was just asking a simple question about it and my car does have an LSD and i just saw a video at this here website of an LS with a B16 tranny and it revs the same exact way as mine and the same MPH…plus i tried it today wiht my friends car (93 ls)and his 2nd and 3rd are alot longer than mine, couldnt get it into 4th or 5th (cop was around) but im sure that i have a short ratio YS1, and it did come off a Integra XSi B16 from Japan

I thought your Buddy didnt have a YS1 tranny?
92-93’s came with YS1 trannys.

Just use the Speed calculator here to figuire it out.

he doesnt it doesnt say YS1 on it…it says some numbers like sideways and stuff

Wth, here you had us thinking you knew it was a YS1 for sure?!

ITS ME who had a YS1 tranny…not him…

JDM_WhiteDA9…
Do us all a foavor and pull the passenger side axle and see if u can see straight threw… this is the only way withought guessing or pulling the trans to look. ys1/lsd trans are really expensive (mine costed me 1200 bucks) and the possiblity that u have one with the lsd is rare. im just stating the facts. if want this thread to end just do this simple task and put it to rest. it will only take a few mins if ur experianced enought to pull an axle…

josh

ok ill do it, but ima wait a litle while because my pass side axle is bad cause the boost was torn, so ima chabge it anyways…and ill let you guys know

Take your car on the interstate. Hit 70mph and see what Rpms you are at.
If you are close to 4 grand, then yeah you have the short geared tranny.

Congrats

If you are a lot lower then that, then you just have the long geared ls1

Booo
