You are young and have a lot to learn so read an learn.
If you have a JDM LSD it will be a Torsen type. It does not work like a cluch pack LSD does. Even if someone put a Quaife in it. It is still a Torsen type. They work on a bias ratio they care alot about what the other wheel is doing (raito one wheel to the other). It is not a lock up.
The Torsen LSD interconnects drive axles with Invex gearing which allows a maximum specific ratio (bias ratio) of torque differentiation to be transmitted to each wheel. This allows the Torsen Differential to transmit the necessary amount of torque to each drive wheel in order to maintain traction of both wheels when accelerating through a turn.
While I have never seen a JDM YS1 w/LSD, I have seen it documented on more than a few occasions. It was supposedly an option in the B16A equipped XSi/RSi Integras.
As several members have already stated; Honda’s brain-fart on the USDM 92-93 Integras (as well as JDM/EDM/CDM, with the JDM years 1yr behind ours) was to put the same trans code on ALL manual transmissions in every trim level in the US & excluding the non-USDM models that came with D-series engines. ONLY the GS-R in the US (and the B-series Integras outside the US) came with a “short-geared” version of the YS1, and no, there is no way to tell them apart just by looking at it. You either need to drive it to check RPMs or open the case to count the teeth.
JDM_WhiteDa9 - You shouldn’t take offense to comments you receive here. “Most” members have read the same exact questions hundreds of times, so there is no lack of answers when the Search function is used. Many of us just get tired of posting the same info over and over again. Hell, many of us could keep a Word doc open with a few dozen coined responses and just cut-n-paste them over & over.
i understand you guys asnwer this all the time i know how you feel cause iat work its the same thing with ppl and their BMWs…well anyways i was just asking a simple question about it and my car does have an LSD and i just saw a video at this here website of an LS with a B16 tranny and it revs the same exact way as mine and the same MPH…plus i tried it today wiht my friends car (93 ls)and his 2nd and 3rd are alot longer than mine, couldnt get it into 4th or 5th (cop was around) but im sure that i have a short ratio YS1, and it did come off a Integra XSi B16 from Japan
JDM_WhiteDA9…
Do us all a foavor and pull the passenger side axle and see if u can see straight threw… this is the only way withought guessing or pulling the trans to look. ys1/lsd trans are really expensive (mine costed me 1200 bucks) and the possiblity that u have one with the lsd is rare. im just stating the facts. if want this thread to end just do this simple task and put it to rest. it will only take a few mins if ur experianced enought to pull an axle…
