WHAT exactly is a YS1?

is it a Short gear transmission or Long gear like a regular LS one, and what car does it come from?

I have been told its from a B16 and its a Short ratio transmission, but i just wanted to make shure…reason for asking is that My Integra has a YS1 with an LSD, and it seems like it has a lot shorter gears than a regular LS transmission

Dude, search next time.

The short geared YS1 tranny is a transmission that came in 92-93 GSR’s. The reason the gears feel a lot shorter than the LS transmission is because they probably are.

there is a ys1 ls tranny and a ys1 shortgeared. there is no way to tell if its short geared unless its in the car or you open up the trans and count the teeth.

i have a 93 ls…with a ys1

so ure sayin it could be short geared or long geared…
did they just split them up in some cars or wat???

it sure does feel short geared…1st wines out so quick it seems…

wat exactly does this mean…just wondering

i drove a 93 gsr b4,…it reved out higher than my car but i guess that doesnt hav to do with the geared tranny

dude STFU, thats why im asking about it…

and to everyone else my transmission is a lot shorter than an LS cause i ran a buddy with the same thing but he didnt have a YS1 and i whomped on him…he even had headers, which i dont…

you have a bad way about comparing things

LOL time to sit down :corn:

Do the smart thing… Compare the actual ratios. Take your car, and your buddies car and drive in the same gear at the same speed and compare your rpm’s… easy… Sounds like you just have a standard LS tranny. Just cause you 'whomped" your buddy, doesn’t mean anything at all. Could mean you jsut have a healthier motor. Overal tire diameter size also effects the ratios

LOL, Hmmmmm, If your friend doesn’t have a YS1 trans, then maybe it was the extra 10 ponies that let you whoop on him.

I assume that he has a 90-91 g2 and you have a 92-93 g2.

Having an aftermarket header doesn’t mean jack.

It’s the torque from the LS motor that makes it feel stronger in 1st gear.
We have more torque than a GS-R by the way.

How do you know that it has an LSD?

FYI No YS1 came with an LSD.

^^LOL, I forgot about that one, and if it does have an LSD installed than that also will help improve on your traction and accelleration = faster.

ok,

  1. It’s header, there aren’t two of them last time I checked.

  2. Do yourself a favor and do some research. This link should get you started
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/Bgears.htm There is a table further down the page that shows what rpm you would be in at any given rpm with a short geared tranny.

There was just a thread yesterday asking similar questions. If you have an LS, and the tranny is original, it isn’t a short geared version. Go for a ride and tell us what rpms you are at when going 70 mph in 5th gear, might as well tell us your tire size too.

And what is this all about? JDM YS1

http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159154

because thats how i bought the car, the kid who owned it before bought the tranny from a friend who had a JDM B16 who couldnt use a cable tranny and yes it has an LSD i can sit there and do burn outs all day and it wont do a singele but itll do a double mark and when you put the car in the air and put it in first the wheels move the saem way, even in nuetral it does it

And how about you guys be a little more friendlier about it, im learning just as you guys started learning too, i was told this website was a good one, but so far i have been getting slick comments and stuff, i have not insulted anyone so i ask for a little respect.

To clear some things up…

YS1 came in all 92/93 integras. NON VTEC ones came with the long geared version. VTEC ones came with the short geared.

Now, the reason why your LS feels like it rips in 1st gear is because the 1st and 2nd gear ratios are almost identical to the short geared trannys. Thats why you can “hang” with a b16/gsr equipped honda. When you hit 3rd gear its like youre suddenly towing a trailer cause thats when the long ratios kick in.

Just because you do burnouts and both tires spin does not mean you have LSD. Easiest is if you have the axle out ever, look at the diff. Or when you ahd it up in the air, and in gear, did you rotate the wheels by hand? or with the engine? Out of all the hondas I’ve owned, I’ve never done a 1 wheel peel, when you make the tq, both break lose.

read! i did and both tires spin equally with no play and in the same direction even OUT of gear itll do it…, BTW my 3rd is short…

Actually, I did read, you did’t read what I asked.

when you ahd it up in the air, and in gear, did you rotate the wheels by hand? or with the engine?

All you said was,

when you put the car in the air and put it in first the wheels move the saem way

Think about it

well obviously if i said theyt moved the same way that means something because they arent supposed to if it didnt have an LSD they are supposed to move in opposite directions
