i have some extra cash laying around so i wanna get some hids…but i can’t find any for the jdm h4h…what kit would i have to use? and mods to install?
up up
HID’s aren’t really meant for our headlights…If you notice, all cars with HID lamps have clear headlight housings, whereas our headlights, jdm or not, aren’t clear. If you were to get the new projector headlights for our cars (ugly as ever), or maybe jdm itr headlights, then it would work well. The temperature output with HID’s is too much and will melt your headlights. I’d recommend getting an auxiliary HID unit. Minger1179 on the forums just got a wireless HID kit from Xenarc and let me tell you it’s one quality HID assembly and install is a snap. Hooe that helps.
i have audi S4 hids in my stock USDM headlights and nothing melted…
Ya i have 04 maxima head lights an they havent melted but i wanna put mine in some one peices
Ryan you have seen my car and i had no problem with any of that stuff like melting and whatnot. It is true that there is no actual application but you can make a h4 bulb fit in the h4h slot or you can also use a 9004 style like stock as well. I have converted both and they work just fine.
the reason they can melt ur jdms is because they are plastic and the stock housings are glass most of the cars u buy in the us come with glass housings, just check what the bulbs temp burns at when u buy the new ones and u should be alright
wow you guys are slow… HIDs arent as hot as regular bulbs… they go by color temp. most HIDs are only 35 watts. I have an HID Conversion that came with plastic housings for my jeep and they didnt melt. they dont even get hot. HIDs in 1 pieces will blind everyone because the beam will not be as concentrated. not to mention you will be getting tickets for them. but if you want to get one look for an H4 kit and modify it to fit.

just another note: bulb temperature(measured in kelvins) does not signify how hot(heat) a bulb gets. bulb temperature dictates what color the light output will be. whereas heat generated from bulbs should be looked at in terms of wattage(i.e 55 watts vs. 85 watts)
I got beemer hids in my one pieces, are they ever bright, but I was oinly harrased once by a cop and thats just because he walked head on to my car, not to mention, with the normal hid;'s you loose the high beam function which is illegal, but never ticketed yet. and no they are not melting.

This is good information. 4000K, 5000K, etc is only telling you what the color of the light will be, i.e., how blue or white or whatever. This has nothing to do with actual operating temperature. If you look at the actual wattage use of an HID light system, they’re usually about 35 watts. This is FAR under the temperature threshold of our JDM headlights.
I DO think, however, that you should NOT install HID lights in JDM one-piece housings. Because they are not a projector design, they will not properly focus the light output of an HID system. Also, because they’re from Japan, a country in which they drive on the “wrong” side of the road, they diffusers in those headlights dump glare to the left, which unfortunately means into the eyes of oncoming drivers here in the US.
If you’re dead set on getting HID, I would recommend you getting a projector style headlight for your car. I personally don’t think they look the best, but it would work MUCH better and you’d get your money’s worth out of your HIDs.
hey ryan. if you want HID’s give me a call or come stop by at cartoys i got something to show you. your gonna crap your pants
Ya I thought HID’s are lower temp than regular bulbs, so you should have a prob on melting your housing. I did notice a big difference between my old teg w/ projectors and my one peice headlights, the projectors were alot brighter. If you want to see my HID’s I’ll be around Kirkland later on tonight.
Yo what up! I got some Audi & Escalade HID’s 250 or B/O. Hit me up at acnrvpman@yahoo.com.
what if someone would take the projector headlights and put the cover from the 1 pc’s, would that be nice?
how hard would it be to fit jdm itr headlights into our cars?
i’ve though of that idea spot, especially takin the balck housing lights and using the cover off a JDM, but the projector fog that comes with the light i think protrudes(like my linguo) a lot further than the JDM glass plastic would allow, maybe one of these days i f i get my hand on a black housing projector set, i’ll do some magic!!! cant be harder than gettin my s2k seats to work with my auto seatbelts!!! and also if u chekc my for sale thread, i have CLEAN 1pc headlights with Audi HIDs for sale, everything is in tact all u have to do is splice in the ballasts box and ur ready!!!
i think the best way to get hid on the jdm lights is to do a OEM projector retrofit, get rid of the reflector and sand down the lens cover to remove those flutes so the cut-off can be sharp and clear.
I’m about to start on this project soon when I get some time off. I’m going to retrofit Audi Bi-Xenon projectors in the headlights but try my best to get it right. The part of the project that is going to be hard for me is sanding the lens cover as it is a long tedious process and aiming the projectors so they stay aimed permanently. I will take pictures of course.
Feel free to post any suggestions.
retrofitting the audi xenon housings is not really a big problem…i’ve done it to many civics, and dc2 integras, never did it on my 1-pcs becaue i liked the spread out HID…its scattered yes, but i rathered it…plus it was a mission to find the one i wanted, the 5-series with the angel eyes!!! that would look sick, in my opinion!!! but never the less, anyone retrofitting the HID’s isnt a bad idea, u get that blueish tint from the projector lenses so thats HOT…and whoever does the prjector 1-pc with the jdm clear housing should look sick…
