I got a carbon hood to replace my frost white hood on my db2. I was thinking of selling the stock hood but wanted to know a couple of things:
- Is the shape any different?
- Is the gs-r hood emblem special? My acura “A” has a gray background.
I got a carbon hood to replace my frost white hood on my db2. I was thinking of selling the stock hood but wanted to know a couple of things:
i dont think there are any differences…and my gs has the same emblem. i think all parts between the 92-93 tegs are interchangable including the gsr
no difference in the hoods.
Only difference was GS-R had a felt hood liner on the inside. Which is rare to find.
My white hood has a “A” emblem with a gray background too. Nothing special.
Felt hood liner? :gotpics:
not really felt. it was a heatsheild/padding. not sure why only gsr had it… i tore mine out its ugly.
Don’t know if that under-hood padding was to keep noise levels or temperatures down. Anyway, the cover of the padding is colored grey and the padding cover on my GSR was getting torn so I ripped it off. What’s left is the pad itself (colored yellow).
Ya when my dad checked out my gsr’s engine bay ( he has a 90 GS) he noticed that gray liner that he did not have. My liner is still in good condition but the car is no noisier with the 2nd hand carbon hood. I did notice that the carbon hood has the weave popping up a bit around where the hood gets hottest after driving. Do you suppose the vtec makes the engine bay hotter? I still have the exhaust manifold heat shield, but maybe the vtec head is taller?
On a side note, should the gray cover increase my hood’s value?
Now that you mentioned it, my hunch is that liner is there to keep hood temps down. The liner doesn’t cover the entire bottom of the hood. There is an open area of around one foot square on which a sticker with technical stuff is located (timing advance, valve clearances, etc.) and no liner is attached to the underside of the hood. Every time it snows and the temp swings to levels below and above freezing, the loose snow on the hood turns into a compact ice-snow mixture. When I’m a bit in a hurry I often leave that curd on the hood and just drive off. More often than not, after an hour’s worth of driving, the mixture on the hood is still intact except for that area where the sticker lies underneath. I’d say the heat might be causing your hood to bubble-up after the car has been driven for a while. I’d suggest putting that liner on your CF hood.
If you search, you’ll find info on the liner. usually in discussions about “what is different on a GS-R”.
I said felt, but I should have said “felt-like”.
Most people have said in other posts that it is mostly for sound deadening, since the GS-R rev’s higher.
I’m sure we can find out why they put this, it would be the same reason why other manufacturer’s do it also.
It does have value, since people have asked for this before. I don’t know if it is still available from the dealer. So at a minimum, try to sell it first if you don’t want it.

Thank you all for the info! I was about to sell my minty frost white gsr hood to someone for 60 bucks! Now I’m gonna be a lil more patient…maybe I should post it for sale here.
Oh, and my CF hood got bubbly from the previous owner’s db1, so I doubt it was from vtec heat
