What is interchangeable between a B17 and a B16

I have done searches and I have run across some posts that say the B17 is basically a stroked B16a. If this is true then the crank, pistons and rods must be the only major difference between the two motors. It makes sense but I just want to confirm what parts are interchangeable from people who really know the B17.

You are correct. The only differences between a B17A1 and an OBD1 B16A are the pistons, rods, and crankshaft.

well Ive also read and seen pictures of a b16 vs b17 head and the intake ports look different, but th internals still remain the same.

The intake ports are the same. They use the same PR3-cast head.

Ya I believe only the 94+ GSR head’s are different in the way you are talking.

yea besides the crank rods and pistons they are the same i personally like the obd1 jdm b16 better then the b17

im pretty sure the pistons are the same just different crank and rods

no. The pistons, crank, rods, cams, and intake manifold are all different on a b17, but all are interchangeable. most of this information is googleable.

^ Truth

Also out of all the parts that are diffrent the only one really worth the money is the crank.

Why?
Why?
Put the B17A crank in a B20B/Z with custom-length rods and you have a very rev-happy R/S ratio in a stock 84mm-bore block (end’s up being about 1.9L) that’s cheaper than sleeving a B18C/B16B to 84mm.
