what is this part?

alright when the car was being rebuilt, the guy took this part off and i was wondering if it this is why my car revs up to 2300 rpms and then dropping down and revving up and down between 1800-1300. When it is warmed up it is a perfect idle.

i know it had a tube into the air intake but i was wondering what it does and could that be the reason for my idle problem?

thanks.
i am going to try and install it tonight and see if it helps steady the idle. hopefully this works or it could be a vacuum leak. but ill let you know.

u don’t need that part… its only to keep u from overrevving… doesn’t do shiet… check ur vacumm lines and sensors (MAP/TPS)… m’kay

Wow…you’ve got to be kidding me.

That part does not keep you from over-revving. That is what the ecu and rev-limiter are for.

That part, if you bothered to read the link I posted, slows the closing of the throttle valve when it is suddenly closed during gear shifting or deceleration. This prevents the car from being less jerky.

Has nothing to do to prevent over-revving.

when im driving in 2nd , barely on throttle, it will jerk harshly a couple times. It also does this a little in third. So im probably going to put this part back in eventually.
As for the vacuum leak, there are a couple of things coming off the intake manifold that have been capped off and zip tied. Ill check those and the hoses so hopefully thats it. I just want to get rid of the idle problem because it’s getting annoying.
This prevents the car from being less jerky.
Meaning it makes it jerky, right?

I reversed the little valve thing on the hose that connects this piece to my AEM intake out of boredom to see if it did anything for the MPG’s. Didn’t do shit, BUT my car does shift a little rough, or ‘jerky’.

I think I will flip the valve back to how it was.

There isn’t a thread for the Gas Saving TEG Tip, so I am using this post instead.

Assuming that the part you are showing in this thread is called the ‘dashpot’ and the hose that runs to it has a black one way valve also connected to the air intake… and also assuming that’s the setup the teg tip is describing, DO NOT reverse the valve.

The tranny shifts considerably smoother with the original factory configuration (surprise, surprise). I have the '93 LS Auto and this is my first car, can’t say I’m all that experienced either, and even I notice a difference I can appreciate.

To be clear, the arrow on the valve points AWAY from the air intake and TO the dashpot shown in the first post. That is the original configuration.
