i did a search for Tokico HP shocks and found nothing of any use to me. who here is using these shocks in their setup?
pros? cons?
i am also looking into getting a set of skunk2 coilovers as well. would this be a decent setup for daily driving and occasional track use. not going for all out performance, just something a better than my current setup.
i am currently on (EEEWWWWWWWW) stock shocks and Tein S-Tech lowering springs. i’m pretty happy with the ride quality, its very comfortable. but the rear sits a little high for my tastes. and i dont wanna get ghetto and cut the coils to try and even out the ride height. want to do a somewhat decent suspension upgrade. price is a little bit of an issue with a baby coming soon, but i’m putting a little bit of money back to upgrade the suspension a little bit. mainly concerned in replacing the shocks, if nothing else for a while. as my stock shocks are on the verge of blowing. and i dont want to get Junk from autozone. i want something semi decent.
who on here is using these shocks in their setup?
i have a pic of my current ride height
and i am looking to get the skunk2 coilovers with these shocks (potentially) and have a ride height like this:
the above ride height is perfect. there is no wheel gap at all, where as mine sits pretty close to that in the front, but the rear is about a half inch higher on my car.
I know a lot of people have HP’s and have some fairly big drops (2"+). But you will also find a lot of people who blew their HP’s too. It’s sort of a gamble on how long they will last.
Personally I opted to just get the Illumina’s. They aren’t that much more than HP’s, plus their adjustable. Not to mention they should last longer. I like mine a lot. Do it right the first time and get some Illumina’s.
i got tokico hp with skunk2 sleeves. i was pretty low, about half an inch wheel gap on 205/50/15’s and tucking with 195/60/15. i got them for cheap that’s why i bought them, and i was a noob with gen2’s at the time, and thought that blues were good. it’s been about a year now, and they’re still good.
thanks for the feedback. i was just looking to a somewhat affordable alternative to the tried and true Koni Yellow/Ground Control setup. but i guess i’ll save up for a set of Koni yellows. i’d still like to go with Skunk2 coils, as the ground controls are a little above my price range.
and to answer the question, the wheel size is 16x7 with 205/45R-16 Toyo Proxes.
the ride height is MUCH lower when i’ve got my stock 92 GS wheels on 195/60R-14 wheels. the wheel gap is about the same but because of the obvious difference in wheel size, the car is almost 3 full inches closer to the ground (with stock wheels on, i have only about .75" of ground clearance with my front mudflaps, so at least up front anyway, it looks like the car is SLAMMED). as i said, i’m perfectly happy with the current wheel gap up front, i just want to bring the rear end down about another half inch, maybe 3/4 of an inch. to make it an even height.
again, thanks for the input. and does anyone here use Skunk2 coilovers on Koni Yellows? and are you able to have that setup without having to mod anything on the shocks? i know if you have Koni Yellows and want to use ground control coilovers, you need to order the coilovers made specifically for the Koni’s. so are you able to use the skunk2 with the koni yellows.
worse comes to worse, i’ll just save up a little longer and get the ground control coils. i’ve just always had good experience with skunk2’s other products, so i figured i’d go with them for suspension parts as well. but if anyone would advise against, please let me know.
i had skunkworks (same as skunk2s) over tokico hp. the ride was ok… it wasnt bad . but i would bottem out alot… so ye i would deff save up from those konis or better yet try some full coilovers. iv sinced upgraded to ksports and its like night and day
