ok my clutch is going bad and i dont know what kind to get- everyone has a diff opinion- i am lookin at clutchmasters stage 2 but how does it drive? how is the feel compared to stock? what do u guys recomend? i know u guys have probably heard this clutch stuff a million times but any opinions will help- thanks
daniel
i have the stage 3 clutchmasters and its working fine. has stock pedal pressure also. great clutch.:-*
I have a Centerforce Dual-Friction. It’s a bit stiffer than stock, but the holding power is amazing (Dan can probably vouch for me).
As soon as my clutch goes though, I’m probably going with ACT (just to try something different).
HTH
I have a stock ITR clutch/flywheel. I chose it because of the OEM quality and durability. Seems to suit me just fine for the time being.
They have Exedy full-face organic clutches for $269. Spoon and Toda clutches are made by Exedy.
i have clutchmasters stg II… great grip…
…when gearing down though, at very low RPM-- <1500… car shakes as clutch engages, but is smooth as silk if i match revs and gear down…also in 1st, moving off slowly is his ‘herky jerky’ maybe i’m unaccustomed or it jus needs to break again…or it was installed incorrectly…its grips like a terror though can’t complain there …clutch pedal feel is decent… c-masters reputation is also good…
had a cluthcmaster was dissapointed specially when the cluth lining came off the disc. now i got the ACT 6 puck still grabs like the day it got put in and that was over 2 years ago.
Clutchmaster stage 2/alum. flywheel here…never been hapier…just had to lurn to rev match with the flywheel…no big deal
92 GS w/ full Street-Strip JG engine and JG 333cams.
-destroyed a Clutch Masters stage 2
-Got ACT Xtreme, very happy, then I thought it was going out and bought another ACT only to find out it was my tranny arm…bent.
-Very happy with ACT
Oh yeah, also run a Mueller’s flywheel…nice I like it. Replacable friction area. Never changed though.
You’re right on that one, “Everyone has a diff opinion”.
Centerforce dual friction is the way to go
I was thinking about either going with exedy stage 1, clutch maters stage 2, or competition clutch stage 2. I beat the shit out of my car so what would be the best for that?
What would you guys reccomend?
well the XTD stage 2 clutch from ebay feels great! If you beat your car then i dont see why you should waste money on an expensive clutch. this one was 135 plus shipping. I’m pretty happy.
you really did search long and hard to revive a thread this old. Goodness 2001…
sorry to bring the thread back from 01 but lol yeah everytime i post a new topic everyones like :bigread: :wrong: :search: lol
but yea i bought a stage 2 comp. clutch yesterday!
I got an XTD stage 3. Ill let you know how it does after the 500 mile breakin.
BTW when breaking in the clutch your supposed to feather it in at around 2k right? IDK as I never have done it before. Its Ok to gun it after its in gear right?
bump! id like to know the answer above as well since my clutch is going in Friday (3/9/07)
Yeah if its not the right way them Im screwed :P.
BTW I went to Midas the other day to see if they could weld up my exhaust downpipe flange. I tell the guy its got a new clutch and to be careful as you need to feather it in slow. He insists “oh the mechanics no what they are doing” (so their fucking mind reading mechanics? They now I have a new clutch befor I tell them???).
Well anyway the dude goes out their (more like OLD MAN) and gets in then proceds to stall it out 3 times in a row. Then sits there with a dumb look on his face. I walk out and try and be nice but Im kinda pissed. He doesnt say anything about it all he can say is “Oh the battery must be dead” (my alt was bad apparently and it was now dead).
So then one of the mechanics (the head mechanic dickhead I guess) comes out and asks me some questions. "He whats engine is in their. “Umm an H22? why?” “That car is meant for a 1.8l how many Liters is it now?” “2.2lts why whats wrong?” “We cant touch it cause its illegal to work on it with an engine of higher displacement in the car”.
So I drove down the street to a legit local business and they would do it for 70$!
Sorry had to vent but rule of story is MIDAS SUCKS FAT NUTS! Luckily the faggot mechanics cant drive a stick cause IDK what would have happened it they got it in their shop!
Wow i wouldnt of wanted them to touch my car after seeing him stall my car
Yeah, damn I guess any retard can get a job there
is your car stock or pushing over 220 hp? i really dont see a reason for a stage 3 if you just have bolt ons… i have exedy stage 1 and a act prolight flywheel and it is going great. still feels stock but just a little stiffer. you can bearly feel it once you get used to it.
If your clutch is “going out”, what part[s] should you replace? Just the Clutch? or should you also get a flywheel, etc?
