What kind of FULL-COILOVERS should I get?

I am looking at re-doing my suspension as the next step of my project. I am looking for some full-coilovers that are height adjustable and possibly have adjustable dampers. I would like the spring rates to be fairly high (maybe 400-600) or somewhere in there. This is for a street car that might see some track days, but not any competition autocross for now.

The ones I have found:

Tanabe S-0CII $600

Tein SuperStreet $800-900

D2 racing $750

K-Sport $700

Omnipower $650

Skunk2 $600

and maybe a few others.

I have also seen that just about everyone will say to go with the Ground Control/Koni yellow package.

those run right around $800 also, so those are in my range.

My question is, which set-up would you recommend for a daily driver?

if full coilovers… then any of those u listed… the koni shocks and gc are combos… and are the best among those u listed which is some goodstuff

Omnipower and Skunk2 are junk, they are only height adjustable not dampering adjustable… your much better off with k-sports if u chose either of those two…

but if your looking for a good setup, koni/gc are your best bet… me personally would rather get a set of full coilovers then sleeves and struts…

the only thing i dont like about my skunk2’s is the dampening is not adjustable. other then that for the price im nowhere near complaints. my EJ1 has Buddy Club N+ spec which has dampening adjustment. didnt come with top hats for $200 more then the skunk2’s which did.

the Buddy Clubs are a much stiffer ride even when turned down low.

Check out PIC as well. The omni’s aren’t quite as good, but they’re good for the price. I would stay away from the K-sports and D2s, and any of the overpriced Japanese brands. Of course, you can’t go wrong with the GC/Koni combo.

How does the tanabe set compare to skunk2 and D2 ?

How about Function and Form? I am leaning towards them

I’ve had the skunk2 pro-s coilovers for about a week now. I’m loving it. Definitely don’t regret my purchase, I love them.

I got function and form and love them.

DO NOT GET D2 or KSports (which are the same thing). They are very well known to leak. (search it up online and u will find out). They do ride nice and handle well and all…

But we have at least 3 cars here among my freinds that have blown at least 2 coilovers within a year/2 years:

A CB7 blew all 4 in a matter of months
another DA i forgot (member davidtam)
Myself - 1 blew a bit over a year. And after replacing it ($190 CAD) another one blew.

If you search it online they are notorious for leaking…

I’m thinking eventually switching to Skunk2

This post was FIRST replied to over 2 years after it was created??? Did Koni/GC’s used to cost $800?? I hope the OP didn’t get D2’s…

lol i didnt notice that… i kept it going lol

i have skunk2 on my da

but i had omni streets on my EG loved them

wish i woulda got them on the da

Best Bang for the buck.

I love my OBX Full Coilovers. 0-3" heght adjustable, dual springs, w/ 15 point adjustable damping.

Too bad they’re discontinued.

I got the Ksports and I’m loving it.

ive had my skunk2 pro-s for 1.5-2 years and im very pleased. altough they dont adjust dampening they have a wide range of height adjusting. ive had to 4x4 them to fit 55 series tires on 16s. (long story). and just got new tires and was able to dump it. ride was stiff as hell 4x4ing cuz the springs were compressed and dumped to low to fit a 4-1 header. like and inch off the ground with more threads to go. on a moderate drop its still a little bouncy but what lowered car isnt. ive got no sagging and shocks not blown.

haha, yeah I started this 2 years ago. I went with the skunk2’s, and love them to death! They ride great even after the 2 years, and they do have a great range of height adjustability! They corner great, and are stiff, but not too stiff for everyday driving
