what mods for ls to match stock gsr

planning to do an all out war against my cocky friend who have a gsr,
can anyone give me a list of mods that would match a stock gsr, like it would be on the same HP as a gsr.
I have a bone stock ls right now. would love to see his face when hee sees my car goes side by side with him. no NOS or turbos suggestions. just how to make my car 160 hp+. thx

To get that much hp you would have to get cams and pistons (among other things) to get any real gains that would bump you that high. For now just do a CAI and exhaust, header if you can swing it, and then race him to an 1/8th mile drag. The B18A’s torque will keep you ahead that far but if you keep going farther he’ll eat you up after he gets those rpms up.

search around a bit, someone on here (can’t think of the name right now) got something around 152hp to the wheels, and a decent amount of torque, just having i/h/e and some crower 403’s, along with a fpr and cam gears. He got that hp number of course after some dyno tuning, but it’s pretty impressive for what are generally considered to be pretty simple bolt-ons. If you did all that and maybe lightened your car a bit and could drive well, I’d think you could beat a totally stock gsr. I don’t know what gsr’s normally put down to the wheels (guessing it’s probably around 153 or so), but I think you’d at least give him a scare if you didn’t win.

ported and polished B18B head + intake and exhaust would probably do it. I’d have put a B18B on mine by now, but I’m still waitin for that head gasket to blow  Oh and I have a million other things that need work first.

If anyone has money to send to the Wray’s Car Needs Money Fund, lemme know!

i say get your basic i/h/e and camshafts. then it should be a good race.

you could pull your AC and power steering that will free up a few ponys…then work on weight reduction…and if the kid realy can’t drive you might have a chance with the simple bolt onts…i/h/e
hope it helps…
later,
dan

go to the local dragstrip and work on your launch. A grand in bolt ons cant come close to a long day or two’s worth of experience

all u need is a decent header, exhaust (not to big) and a nice intake and id get cold air unless u wrap short ram which does work…the header will make the biggest difference… cams
will kill if u get nice 403’s and hes got a just maybe like intake and exhaust gsr

crower 403’s are nice with adj. cam gears, raise the compression up(10.5 to 1), port and polish head, your usual i/h/e, adj. fpr, and an upgraded the ecu. that’s pretty much what i have done to my car EXCEPT for the “port and polish head” and “an upgraded ecu”.

btw, how much are you looking to spend?

ever thought about going LS-VTEC?

and remember
the gsr is vtec… no bottom end not as much torque
and we are looking at the wheel too.
torque at higher speeds is a great help cause u have so much more opposing force the higher the speed…DRAG and what not
and if u can build a real good engine VTEC cant compare…
mostly for torque reasons…and when torque is needed its all that matter…o yea no1 ever talks about intake manifolds either… if u slapped on a intake manifold expect more from that then any cat back u can slapp on…ur talkin The whole power band gets the goods… on a nice b18a ill gauruntee up2 a 10-15hp at the wheels …10 more or less if u have nothing done at peak…15 at least with cams and gears…forced induction well **** can we say an easy 30 at the wheels depending on the set up…JG edlebrock and skunk2

thx for your suggestions. heard good stuff about skunk2 intake manifold. Was thinking if its ok to put the intake manifold and the headers first on my mod list, since they give more hp gains, before spending big bucks on catbacks that doesnt give much HP.
Will it make a difference?
Guess it’ll take a lot of money to reach 160hp.
Just wondering on catbacks, since a lot of people say here that theres not much hp you can gain when you put it so why spend big bucks on it. Considering of just getting pacesetters catback that wouldn’t cost a leg. Heard it has almost stock sound, which i think is good when you slap all those power bolt ons and start gassing all the way everyday, wouldnt be a cop magnet. any feedback? or just save for a more expensive ones?

i wouldnt call intake manifold a basic bolt on cause of all the sensors and **** … its a 1-2 hour install job…header is a like 30 minute mod if u have the right tools…those are the most for your money that you will get…intakes are like 30 bucks on ebay with a filter so they dont count…but my car pulled a lot harder with my header…i could tell a HUGE HUGE difference 4th gear from 80-100mph…the powerband sorta vtecs hahahaha… around 4100 rpm the revs shoot almost twice as fast.

i got 155 to the wheels with i/h/e fpr/gauge im and dynotuned pressure and timing… but im a GSR :stuck_out_tongue:

tach9racing: what header are you using? I guess I’ll just get a nice catback, header and intake first. And if get hooked up on it i’ll start throwing money on intake manifold and cams and all the other stff. Do you think a cheap header and intake would do as good? dont care if they don’t look good as long as they do as good. They’re not like when you get a cheap catback you’ll be worrying about how it sounds and looks. Is it ok if I do header and intake first before catback? Its just the catback is so expensive.

i have a cheap intake off ebay but with a KN filter…OBX header.
Tenzo catback…the intake tubes are all the same but if u have them all wrapped up it makes a difference

tach9racing: how much did you get for the tenzo catback?

well i only got the axleback for 200 bucks, then i got a custom midpiece 2.3 inches in diameter for about 100

hey you culd get a b17a swap:)

Might be me. I’m around 150 whp, 130 ft/lbs of torque.

i/h/e and you can probably keep up with a stock GSR. Depends on the drivers. Add some cams and you should blow him away.

ALOT OF GUYS THINK THAT GOING CRAZY WITH BOLT-ONS IS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THE CAR QUICK, IT’S NOT. FIRST AND FOREMOST, TUNE THE CAR UP REALLY GOOD, HAVE SOME READ YOUR ECU AND “CLEAN IT UP”. THAT’S WHAT I DID BEFORE DOING ANY MODS. YOU’LL ALSO BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCES IN YOUR MODS. AS FOR CAMS BE CAREFUL IN CHOOSING THEM, SOME OF THEM REQUIRE BOTTOM END WORK IN THE LONG RUN AND SOME CAN BE USED WITH SIMPLE BOLT-ONS.

THE MASS HAS ENDED NOW YOU MAY GO MODIFY YOUR WHIP:)
