Hey guys. Im going to be picking up some skunk2 lowering springs here within the next couple of weeks, and was wondering what u guys recommend on shocks? The springs lower approximately 2 inches. I dont have the money for koni yellows, so what shocks will do the job fine for just a two inch drop? Tokico blues? Illuminas? Kyb? Thanks. All suggestions are welcome.
Tokico Illuminas would be fine for the job. At least better than the other 2.
I forgot to add this is strictly just a daily driver car, i don’t do any autox, or take turns really fast, i just want a lower stance on my car is all.
Get the Blues, or better yet the Koni reds if possible. I’d recommend AGAINST the skunk2 springs. Many say (including me) that they’re too bouncy. Try H&Rs or Neuspeeds. They drop it 2’’ too. I’m ridin’ the Neuspeeds now. I daily drive too, w/ no crazy weavin. The ride is nice & smooth, & if you do need to take a turn sharp, they hug great. Those Germans know how to make suspension components.
:getsome: :manual:
Ahh, someone exactly with how i want the setup. Good advice man. I’ve heard good things about h&r, and both neuspeed. Yet being bouncy would be no problem haha, considering my shocks suck right now, i can get the neuspeed easy on ebay, but idk about the koni reds. More suggestions are welcome.
Yeah, but better shocks are nicer. If you can have a better ride & still get performance, then rock on.
I would like to say that I also think it’d be a good idea to consider using 88-91 EF Civic shocks/struts. They are 1 1/2 to 2’’ (can’t remeber) shorter than the DA shock/struts in body height. This give more travel, plus less rebound over ANY DA shock/strut; Basically meaning you have less chance of bottoming out.
You may need the front forks from the EF to make 'em mount properly. Do a search for “Hybrid DA Suspension” The thread called The Ever Elusive Hybrid DA Suspension (or something like that) tells it all. my older posts on it should tell you more accurate info also.
If no reds, then go Tokico Blues. I’m not totally diggin’ my KYB GR2s, btw. Recommend against those too.
:getsome: :manual:
I’ve looked at that article though. Very interesting idea. I dont have the time to do something like that haha, im working a 40 hour a week summer job, and im full time in college during the year with a part time job on weekends, so my time is kinda full. Im picking up a chipped ecu from a fellow member on here, who has really good feedback, here soon, so after i get that, im gonna get my suspension done because im sick of the fender gap, its kinda gross. Haha. For as much as i drive my car, having it just lowered and not doing a full suspension is worth it to me, the blues should last me a good long while since i dont do anything drastic besides straight driving, and the roads arent too bad around here. Ill probably end up going neuspeed race springs with tokico blues. So like $350 for the both of them, plus an allignment, im gonna end up spending around the $420ish mark, and thats cool with me.
Update: I picked up some neuspeed springs, which are a 2" drop. And im currently bidding on some illumina’s. So whenever i get both of them, and when i pick up some new axles, im going to do all three at the same time. I will post pics of before and after when im finished.
they dont make reds (specials) for our DA, unless you use one off another car.
i’m throwing on my tokico illumina kit (struts/springs) this saturday and it supposedly lowers 1". With my sagging springs it’ll probably look no different, but i’m sure the ride is night/day compared to my worn struts. i know there’s a buy it now option for illuminas for 375 + negligible shipping (like 3 bucks). i got my tokico kit for 448.
Ok i got the illuminas. They are being shipped tomorrow. Used, but not bad for only 119 bucks. =). So i spent 189 on neuspeed race springs and tokico illuminas. Cant beat it. New axles will run me about 150 so, 339 is well under what i thought, with better products. Plus i can get an allignment for the front for cheap, so about 400 bucks total. Ahh, im anxious to get it all done.
nice decision with the illuminas.
I got my rears installed this past week and the ride is definitely different than my 13 year old shocks and springs(still waiting for the springs to settle). Its still pretty stiff even on “2”. Fronts to go on this weekend. I can definately tell on a nice smooth road or freeway there is a reduction in “float” or whatever you call it.
119? thats a pretty good deal. I got a brand new Tokico Advanced Handling Kit for 448 shipped…i’m not for used things like suspension. I want brand new. The car’s lower an inch and i’ll probably have to use some shims on the rear.
Understandable. They are in good condition, and they are from someone local. I actually went and looked at them. None are blown, and were only used for like 2k miles. So i couldnt pass them up.
yea thats a steal.
:bang: at my previous comment. Forgot i already responded to this thread.
