what should I do, engine not running well.

lately the car has been slowly getting worse. It runs really rough, and if I drive it hard for a while it begins to slip and the rpms rise faster than the speed of the car. I know that there is a driveaxle leak forsure. I’m not sure if this is whats causing it or not. But it defintely is lacking power and sounds really bad. I dont even know where to start.

Thanks

clutch?

ya the clucth was replaced about 50,000KM ago

I’d get a full 100k tune up, but that might be a little pricey. My teg had been running really rough for about a year and I just got a full 100k tune up. Replaced all the belts, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, water pump, dist. cap, valve adjustment, timing adjustment. Apparently the timing belt was skipping a tooth, thats one of the things causing the rough idle. You might also want to check your fuel injectors, they may be clogged. It could really be a number of different things, I would start w/ the inexpensive stuff first and see if that solves the problem, if not, take it to a reputable shop, preferably an Acura dealer and see if they can diagnose it for you. After that 100k tune up I just had done, it runs like a beauty a 150k.

how much is this tune up worth?

it is probably a good idea I dont have documentation on any tuneup on the car it has 213,000KM
the timing belt has been replaced and valves have been adjusted tho

The tune up I just had done cost me a little over $400 US, but I get a discount because a family member works for an Acura dealer. I would imagine retail on this type of tune up would cost around $800. You should look into it though, I would suggest doing what you can yourself, and then take it to a shop for the stuff you can’t (if you need it).

$400 is a decent price for “all the belts, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, water pump, dist. cap, valve adjustment, timing adjustment.”

let me see, my estimate for prices
-timing belt $60
-other 3 belts $70
-plugs $7
-wires $50
-fuel filter $15
-dist cap + rotor $30
all prices are as close to what i would pay.
timing, and vavle adjustment, free.
total $232, so, you got charged about $130 for labor. you didn’t get ripped off, pretty decent prices coming from the dealer.

adjust the clutch. Your clutch must be slipping. There’s a little knob that your turn that’s on top of the tranny where the clutch cable goes in.

yep just did that, clutch is grabbing again!
but still lacks power
thanks

Put in alot of fuel injector cleaner , octane boost and find a good engine oil additive… ALso use mobil 1 10w30 for older engines. All this should work a lil bit to make you car run smoother and have mo power :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to hear your got your clutch fixed with something so simple! Sounded like maybe oil was leaking into it, but I guess not.

Anyways, yeah a basic tune-up should solve your power problems.
Even just spark plugs + wires, distributor cap + rotor, fuel filter, and adjust your timing. Should notice quite a difference. My car’s got 213,000km as well, and I did a tuneup when I hit 200 and what a difference!! Runs like new!

just an idea…

make sure you spark plugs are firing how they are sapposed to, also pick up a can of “44k” made by BG, throw it in your gas tank next fill up
