Installing speakers in our cars seems to be a huge pain in the ass…especially the rear speakers. I learned this the hard way when I tried installing alpine type s 6 1/2s and realized the difference between a standard size and oversized speaker for the first time. 5 1/4 seems too small and it seems like all 6 1/2s are oversized (except the cheap speakers)
So…what kind of speakers are you guys running? Any success with direct installs? I’m trying to avoid fabrication besides the simple speaker basket cut-out to fit a larger magnet. Mainly looking to see who has found a quality set of speakers that fit our cars without chopping it up.
6.5" Pioneer 2-ways all the way around, with new holes drilled into the metal-surround so they bolt in. And filed down the metal tabs so they fit in the OEM cutouts. Easy-peasy.
I usually install alpine in all my cars but I had issues mounting the 6.5 type s speakers in my old DA since they’re oversized. I’ve heard great things about polk audio speakers…are these also oversized or have you guys been able to install them without issues. And I have a newer alpine deck with a ktp 445 powerpack amp
I also have new Alpines 6 1/2" all around in my DB2. I had no problem with the rears fitting but the surfer tool I picked the car up from got rid of the OE Speaker brackets in both doors so he could put some cheapy ebay things in there that lit up red with every bass note. I promptly found the OE brackets at a junk yard and now my Alpines fit perfect. I am however having a small issue getting my Double Din Alpine Head Unit to secure to the OE console. I tried removing the small black plastic square molding that has the ash tray attached and I still can’t find a good way to secure it. I may have to find some after market install kit.
