well im going to be lowering my DB1 pretty soon, all i know is i want the Tokico Illuminas. but i dont know what kind of springs to get, ive been looking mainly at the Tein S.tech springs. those lower about 2". but if anyone has any other suggestions on springs or any opinions on the Teins that would be great.
If I were to get springs, I’d probably get H&R’s. The sports are 1.8" drop and the race is 2.2 i think. the sports would probably be a pretty good match for the illuminas.
i have progress sport springs with my illuminas and love the combo. its a 2 inch drop.
Stock or Eibach pro kit…illumnas arent meant to be used with lowering springs. theyre calibrated to work with stock height and rate. however u can get away with the rate without problems, but not the height.
i am using my illumnas with progress springs and they are too tall for the short progress springs. It makes noise cuz the spring unseats. i would not lower more than 1.5" when using illumnas.
Are you sure about the Illuminas? I have HR Sports with Tokico Illuminas and I don’t have that problem. Hell I didn’t have that problem even when I had stock shocks and HR Sports. I even autocross my car too… Are you sure you have Illuminas? Are you sure they’re the right application? Are you sure its the shock making noise? And where are you getting your information? Aftermarket springs are known to rattle around a bit if you go over bumps and your suspension travels all the way down.
Master C - Yeah what are your plans with the car? Ever spring has a different application. Please search though next time. This has been answered many times before.
well my friends and myself like to go around some mountain roads at times, and i plan on autocrossing my car as well. does anyone have the tein s.tech springs? they lower about 2" but the springs rates arent that high, i think like 210 for the front and 140 for the rear.
Uhhh im getting my info from my 3+ year experience with this setup. Logically, I wouldnt be writing this if i didnt have illumnas. and, No shit theyre the right application. i am 110% sure it is a SETUP PROBLEM (not only the shock, but my choice to lower using Illumnas as my shock) and i have other g2ic members who sat in my car to confirm that i wasnt imagining this shit.
CLIFF NOTES = i regret it, the KYB AGX were a better value for the purpose of the setup. Either that or i shouldve did more research/not cut corners and went with the koni yellows instead.
I was about to get iluminas. I’ve heard plenty of good news about the koni yellows, and I’ve been planning on getting the s.tech springs, so I think I might go this direction.
I have Illuminas with Eibach Pro kit.
Works wonders…
i just swapped over to tokico illuminas and h&r sport springs. and i couldnt be happier. id have gone with race springs but my headers hangs so low that race springs would have put it on the ground at all times
got the illuminas with skunk2 springs 2.25-2.5 inch drop…handles great, performed awsome at the track with the adj…damping…love them…speed bumps and getting into parking lots is usually a bitch
i have h&r not sure if they are the sport or race but they are very smooth and the illumanes are really good and fun to autox on.
what color are the h&r springs… red is the race springs and black is the sports( or maybe its really dark blue for the sports)
ok i have the dark ones so its the sports… but they still are really stiff ride
there not that bad i ride around with my front shocks set at 2 and my rears set at 3 unless im doing highway driving then its 3 all around…
Tokico Illuminas + Eibach ProKit springs = excellent ride control. With 205/50-15 Hankook R-S2 Z212 tires and Illuminas set to 5/5 the ride and handling is excellent in both autocross and roadcourse environments. Not sure about how much more a DB would drop in the rear compared to a DA, but here’s what Tokico Illuminas + Eibach Pro Kits in a gutted '90 RS looks like:
thats about how i sit with a gutted 91 ls and illuminas with h&r sports…
h&r sports
