What to do with 92-93 O2 sensor in 90 integra?

hello, i have a 1990 integra with a B18A1 engine block from a 92-93 integra. i still am running the stock OBD0 ECU and all the original obd0 parts.

the other day while changing my oil, i noticed that the single oxygen sensor with 4 wires and a square connector (two black, one white wire, and one green wire) sticking out of the end of my header wasn’t hooked up to anything… and i looked up around my oil filter to try and find a plug to connect it to, and the only plug that’s not hooked up to anything has two wires, a circular connector, and it doesn’t look like an o2 sensor plug at all.

where SHOULD i be looking for the correct plug to hook my o2 sensor into?

what i would also like to know is, how should i go about wiring up that o2 sensor? right now i don’t really like the idea of my car not having it’s o2 sensor hooked up :frowning: would it be possible to keep the o2 sensor? or, would i have to buy a new, different o2 sensor and wire it into my ecu?

stock 90 integras only had a 1 wire o2. and look up an ecu pinout and see where your o2 wire is. it will be a single black wire with a tan clear plug on the end. you can get a new o2 without a plug for like $20 at autozone or wherever you shop.

i was just looking around my engine bay for somewhere to plug an o2 sensor up to, and i found a connector with a single white wire on the front of my engine that looks like it could be the connector to an o2 sensor from a 1990. could anyone confirm or deny this?

if that’s the o2 sensor connector, could i just splice that white wire into the white wire on my 4 wire o2 sensor? or, would the other 3 wires also have to be hooked to something for it to work? i’m trying to not have to buy a new o2 sensor :frowning:

thanks in advance to anybody that knows more about this than i do

How about you give me your good 4 wire and Ill give you a 1 wire… Yeah your gonna need a single wire 02 man, their cheap as hell and they just click in.

affirmative. thats the harness it plugs into. but if u have a 4 wire for some reason… i dont see why it wouldbut if u do its gotta go… there are four wires coming off the back of the 02 sensor where it plugs into the mani?

yes, the o2 sensor i have is a 4 wire. the engine i have was swapped from a 92-93 (the original engine blew a piston ring :violin:), the exhaust manifold and o2 sensor came with the new engine. so i’m guessing the lazy mechanic that swapped it in before i got this car never bothered to get a single wire o2 sensor, he just left it running rich without a sensor hooked up :ghetto:

hmm… well if this 4 wire o2 sensor is useless on my car, i suppose that would be a good trade for me… what brand is your o2 sensor? i’ve been told to stay away from bosch o2 sensors…

LOL nah I was just kidding plus I dont have one sold it with the manifold. If its a newer sensor though I could buy it off you…

i have a 4 wire in my 90 integra, i just spilced the signal wire from the 4 wire into a speaker looking terminal and plugged it into the stock 1 wire connector. works fine.

^ thats an option but i would do it the right way. no extra wires or anything. just go spend the 18 bucks and get the proper oneand sell the four wire and make ur money back.

hey man, if i can just splice the signal wire on the connector into one of the 4 wires on my o2 sensor and have it work, that’s all i’m looking for. it’s going to do the same thing a 1 wire o2 sensor would’ve done.

which wire on the 4 wire o2 sensor is the signal wire? on my o2 sensor i have a white wire, a green wire, and two black wires. correct me if i’m wrong; i’m guessing it would be the white wire since the sensor connector’s single wire is white…
i feel like i’m starting to make progress on this topic, thanks guys =)

the correct thing to do is get a header from a 90-91 integra and then get the 1 wire O2 sensor and plug it in correctly. the 1 wire o2 sensor is heated by the exhaust and that is why it is located so close to the head. THe 4 wire o2 sensor is located close to the cat because the other wires are for heating up the o2 sensor so that it works correctly.

orr… you can just wire the signal wire to the ecu with your current o2 sensor. then also wire the other 3 to the correct voltages and make it work correctly with your obd0 ecu.

i’m not looking to get another header… i am going away to college in a month and i’m trying to fix this on a college budget, which in this case happens to be $0…

okay polska, i’m pretty good with wiring, could you please tell me which color wire is the signal, and what i have to do with the other 3?

although i must say, i had my car running for all of about 60 seconds when i put it up on ramps the other day, and the downpipe around where the o2 sensor bung is was already too hot for the touch… sure, maybe it wasn’t electronically heated, but i’m guessing my car would run rich for all of about 1-2 minutes untill it’s hot enough from the exhaust… that doesn’t seem like a big deal to me, but i’ll go ahead and try to wire all 4 wires up just because i have them…

from what i remember it is the white wire? just search for what wire to hook up an a/f ratio gauge to. it would be the signal wire.

okay, i wired the connector up to the white wire on my 4 wire o2 sensor today, and the engine seemed to idle a little bit better and it seemed to be generally a happier car… thanks to everyone who gave their two cents =) :werd:
