I know i’m gonna sound noobish by asking this but, what would be the next upgrades after intake, header, and exhaust? i was told intake manifold, throttle body, and cams + cam gears. i have a B18A1. i joined G2IC to learn from experienced gen 2 owners. so all replies are much appreciated.
You should put a vtec head on before buying cams and an intake manifold.
For the conversion just get arp rod botls and head studs, gsr water pump / timing belt, golden eagle vtec kit.
Then get cams, throttle body, intake manifold ect… Last but not least a vtec ECU Chip and TUNE!!!
That question is WAY too dependent on what you want to get out of your car, what you use it for, how much you want to spend…etc Personally I wouldn’t bother with the b18a and I’d save for a vtec swap of some sort. If you’re sticking with the b18a then I’d say your next upgrade should be a a short geared transmission, lighter flywheel, and a new clutch. A better trans and lighter flywheel will make a huge difference. After that, cams and tuning, and if you’re willing to tackle the bottom end, then higher compression pistons. Or you could get a head package which flows better and is milled so you can bump up your compression. You won’t really be able to take full advantage of those cams unless you bump up the compression. Really, the cams, raised compression, intake manifold, throttle body, and possibly headwork should all be done together and then the car should be tuned. Any of those parts by themselves won’t do much, but cams and raised compression would be the biggest improvement if you’re only looking to do one thing - but still you’ll need to tune the motor.
dont build the a1 anymore or buy any more parts for it. save up and get a b16 or something else that isnt an ls or non vtec unless you want a b20.
if you are looking to spend time modding your car to drive up and down the street and no other purpose then swap in a vtec anything and be done with it. if you are going to be asking on what you should do next when it comes to modding your engine then you NEED to inform people on what it is you use your car for. when you do this, it allows us to better advise you on mods since there are so many different things you can do based on the purpose of your vehicle.
if you are too shy to say that you just want to use your car for driving up and down the street then dont be. 95% of the people here use their da for just that.
but colin is on the right path… listen to him.
i luv driving road course type roads. sharp turns one after another. we go out and drive lakeside and canyon type cliff roads. but its also daily driven. i’m not lookng to build a quarter mile car by any means. but i do want to be able to hold my own when needed. as far as doing an LS vtec swap, i was told oil ports had to be drilled into the motor. and it would be easier to just GSR or Type-R swap. it seems like all of u agree that building tha A1 is a waste of time. if i want to do more than just daily drive. and i completly understand that building a non vtec motor has only so much potential. but again, i was told you can get alot power out of a A1. anyways, as far as price goes. i’d have to save up for a little while to afford a swap. so what swap is tha best for, price to power ratio? and is it true about what i was told about tha LS vtec swap? or would that be my best option? also, if i swap in tha future. will any of tha swaps require me to change or replace any of the front suspension? or can i start adding on to what i already have. no point in buying parts now. if they won’t work later.
Unfortunately, it gets expensive fairly quickly after all the bolt ons. All the parts like intake manifold work with the more aggressive camshafts, which need upgraded valvetrain, adjustable cam gears, upgraded pistons to increase the compression ratio, larger throttle body, and etc… You should tune your car after the upgrades and that isn’t cheap. The long geared ys1 could use an upgrade with lsd and short gears and that definitely isn’t cheap.
Way back in the day, my b18a had crower 403s, skunk 2 cam gears, dc header, iceman intake, full 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust and a dry 50 shot of nitrous. Since you are from California, hope you know someone that can smog your car. As you get older you realize that you want your daily driver to be headache free/reliable and your track/fun car to be expendable.
My b18a :-* I prefer daily driving my semi-track 93 Integra LS with rebuilt b18a, all the bolt-ons, suspension and transmission work as apposed to my bolt-on 93 GS-R.

So how much HP were u running at tha wheels with ur original A1?
Not sure. Never made it to the dyno. I sold off almost everything and bought a honda vfr. Got married, had kids and sold the vfr :bawl:
you should save for a itr swap or gsr swap. I think you should take it slow and try out a b18c swap. you don’t need much to get it moving. you can swap out pistons on a gsr for stock p73 pistons and maybe itr cams.
after a while you cam get bigger cams and forged pistons. bigger tb. better headers
