Thanks for interrupting my frosty from Wendy’s. I put my car on ramps just for you. J/K. Anyway, here they are. You can see how I could only use 1 spring on the bolts and it sits a little crooked.
i see, Thanks a lot, i guess its better to get one with welded flanges on… but i wonder how much its going to cost me
so is the connection at the header fine? but the problem is the connection to the cat to exhaust pipe? is there a leak with it like that?
No it is the connection at the header that is messed up. It does not leak but it is crooked and it moved my exhaust tip over about an inch to the left. It still works fine but I might get it fixed later on.
so you think getting a universal one would be fitter and weld the flange on that way? i just want the bolt up look eventhough im never going to be looking under the car lol, i just like the feeling everything is bolt up.
Yeah just have a shop weld it up. They can make it so you can still bolt it up by reusing your old flanges or using new ones. Call around and get some quotes to get an idea how much it is gonna cost.
Fixed your Magnaflow problem!
I got the Magnaflow cat & had the same problem. It’s because they put the flange a 1/2 inch too short. If it was lengthed, it’d be a perfect fit. Here’s an easier solution:
You have to cut one of the springs in half, then use 1 half for each side. There’s still resistance in them, so they mantain their intended function, Took me 2 mins to cut 1 w/ a hack saw. might wanna file the edges a bit though, as they’ll probably be jagged.
I sits fine now. It’s angled up a bit, but this is acutally a plus, since now my cat doesn’t scrap on speed bumps & such.
As for the quality & sound; it’s superb! nice, linear tone, not raspy or “sizzly” @ all. It’s great for a Daily Driver, since the packing is half that of the OEM cat- making for a higher flowing, less restrictive cat that still meets CARB standards. the torque I lost from hollowin’ out my stock cat has returned too.
Even pull throughout the entire RPM range. Seriously, in 5th on the highway, passing is a breeze now! Power is on tap! (Don’t expect huge gains, but I could tell the difference. Less bogging before ramp-up of RPMs.)
Besides that, @ $90.00 shipped to FLA from Summit racing, it’s a steal! honestly one of the best mods for the money. Worth every red cent!

I will try cutting one of the springs. Thanks for the tip. I will take more pics once it is fixed to show the difference in angle.
I did what you said and it worked. Thanks for the advice. It is a great cat. It smoothed out my exhaust and it sounds better.
No prob. When in doubt, modify it. That’s the whole premise behind tuning anyway. Enjoy the new “hotness” :burnout:

so getting this cat would be great, and all i should do is cut the springs? i think im going to get it now
I would. Just cut 1 spring in half. It should be fine. You will have to enlarge the hole for the spring bolts though.
Maybe not. I didn’t have to. Might’ve been an error on that one piece.

If I have 2.5 inch piping for everything except the cat, should I be getting the MPE-53006CA version with the 2.5" in/outlet…will that work…and will it improve performance or should I go for something smaller
like i said contact smsp and tell them what you have and what you want
