whats needed for a block girdle?

Im building a b20/vtec for a track car that is goinig to redline at 9000rpm.Just wanted to add a block girdle for extra strength.Im currently looking at the KMS ones, but dont know exactly what other parts are needed for it to work. Some people tell me I need just gsr main cap bolts.Others tell me I need gsr oil pan, baffle, pickup, and the main cap bolts. So what do I really need?

u can machine the existing ls mains, u dont need the gsr’s. p72 main bolts, girdle, p72 oil, pick up, windage tray and pan.

just for my info, whats the benefit of this?

it provides superior crank stability during sustained periods of higher than normal rpm (7k+). this isnt really needed for a dd car, or drag motor for that matter. but, im starting to roadrace and prefer to have one in my lsv shortblock. i’ve also installed an oem oil cooler, aluminum rad and crankcase ventilation to provide superior protection/efficiency during those 10-15 minute lapping sessions

damn i lap my car and i dont have this… but right now im only ls-t. im currently building myself an ls/vtec this winter which will be revving up to 9000rpm. which im putting the turbo stuff on. looks like i got a little bit more research to do for this ls/vtec build. im more familiar with boosted ls’s.

hey, i didn’t day that u need it. i just figured if Honda installed them in their 1.8 vtec’s, and my lsv will see 8650rpm (+/-100rpm) why not? once the motor is out or in the process of being re-built, the peace of mind outweighs the added cost. which is not that expensive considering how much money is invested into a fully forged and balanced shortblock. i picked up the girdle, pick up, pan, windage tray, mains and bolts (used) for $150 and the labour was about the same. oil cooler, $60. $360 total on top of the rebuild was chicken scratch to be honest

thanks for the info!

Endyn makes a nice one too. You can use the GSR oil pickup and oil pan and no machining is needed.

no windage tray or gsr bolts needed for the Endyn?
